that is why I roll need when I want an item for my companions

I just dont give a speech why I am rolling need

If I (meaning my game entirety) needs the item I roll need.

if I (meaning my game entirety) doesn't need the item I roll greed.

If an item pops up I need for a companion I don't sit in chat explaining my intentions I click need and be done with it.

I get grats'd on the win I've never had anyone throw a 2 year old temper tantrum.

I've seen in guild chat or general chat "ooo just got a purple 50 helm for my companion!" we dont lambast him, we congrats them.

I always roll need on companion items IF i need them.

and I never discuss intentions as group missions take a long time to do we aren't discussing loot intentions we click need or greed as the window pops up.

if you need it then click need

if i need it for me, my ship, companions, or a new speeder drop I click need.

I can't believe I'm posting about item rolls, or about this issue. People worry too much about loot, and I'm a big believer in just enjoying the game.
But poor claims hurt group dynamics, and there's no need for this kind of thing.

Today, a Sith Marauder rolled Need to get this
Cademimu Sharpshooter's Jacket
+34 Endurance
+38 Cunning
+18 Critical Rating

when I pointed out it was made for an Agent, like me, he said he intended to strip out the mods and trade them.

When I noted that the mods are Bound, he insisted that since he could wear it, he could roll. More surprising was that when he brought the issue to /General, a few voices agreed.

Most did not, but the others need to know that sort of claim i's a party-breaker. This is clearly an Agent item - a huge upgrade in my case - and my next group will get a little less healing as a result.

One of the pleasures of running Flashpoints is the chance to get gear suited to you. If it's better suited to someone else, leave it for them.
This is why this game needs a LFD tool with proper gear looting restrictions.

Even on an RP server, roleplaying an ***hat does not make OOC immature behavior excusable.

If you don't want this to happen run your groups in master looter mode. Otherwise expect it out of pugs. I'm not sure what MMO fantasy land some of the poster here came from, but its been like this item rolls became part of the genre and no social pressure (lol @ the idea of "black lists") is gonna change it nor is this thread. The vast majority of the players in this or any other MMO never visit the forums.

Oooook, i hope i never find myself in a group with you. You should NEVER roll need on an item that your toon does not need. ALL Companion items should be a greed roll. Hell, i think Bioware needs to implement a system where you can only roll need on an item that is meant for your character. This is why i don't do PUGs.

Fine. Then don't run with a PUG that is using it. The door swings both ways. Or are you afraid that most PUGs will use it and you won't be able to "do whatever you feel like"? Would that be so wrong? No, because apparently in a gosh darn video game, there is no right or wrong.

And this isn't so much directed at you, but the type of people who want it a certain way due to morals or whatnot, but where no agreement was made prior.

And need was left because of the ability to customize with orange gear AND due to having companions with different gear needs.

PLUS there is a situation that is the opposite of this. Orange IA piece drops, the IA in the group has it already for looks and has better stats, so the Marauder wants for looks. But the IA doesn't WANT him to have it because he feels only IAs should get it, regardless of how the game is designed to allow it. And i've experienced this, not personally, but with others in the group bickering over an item.

When I walk into a mens room, should I also say loudly "Please, no one pee on me" too? And if I don't and someone wizzes on my leg, is it my fault for not first announcing something that should have been blatantly obvious to everyone with half a brain?

If you want something for the aesthetics or the mods, ASK FIRST. Especially if there's someone in your group that uses those stats. If you blindly need, you're going to get black listed and /ignored. It shouldn't take me stating the glaringly obvious every time a group forms just to make sure people don't grief others.

I really don't have a problem with someone rolling need for a companion under 2 conditions:
1. No one else needs it for their own player character
2. They explain themselves. Really how long does it take to type "needing for companion"?

Not only does this make sense, it actually encourages people to talk to each other.

You see this i would be ok with. As long as they ask before hand "Is it ok if i need for my companion?" Then if somebody else also could use it for their companion and already clicked greed they could say "No, i also need it for my companion, click greed."
