ok i have played both games
and yes there is alot of comparison
but there is not a whole lot of things that could be done different
like you have to have a tank and you have to have a healer in all games
different tallents but same basics
WOW has been out alot longer so of course you are going to compare it to wow

its wow in another dimension

like wow compared to EQ

the comparison will go on forever in games
:If a winner never quits and a quiter never wins. Then why is it wise to quit when you are ahead ?

Why are people so butthurt over wow? Many players come from wow, and they would like to know if there are similar classes they liked in wow. And there are lots of similarities f. ex. 3 talents trees per class etc. Guys, stop hating.

^What he said. Basically, this guy comes here to get an idea of what the classes are like and wants some sort of help from the community by comparing it to something he already knows (aka. WoW), but instead he gets flamed for it. Everyone knows this game isn't WoW, get off your high horse and offer helpful insight... Thanks! And Have a Day

First post, just wanted to say the people trying to say this game isn't WoW, so you shouldn't compare the two, need to take the stick out of their bum... People just want a general feel for the classes, someone like myself who just bought the game...

The Shadow is def NOT a Rogue.

Like other dude said, its a lot like an Enh Shaman with stealth.

for me the bounty hunter is a straight druid...
merc healer --> tree heals
merc dps --> boomkin
powertech tank --> feral bear
powertech dps --> feral cat

again, this is in my opinion so dont rage at me.

The problem is that the comparisons aren't really there.

On paper a sith warrior would be very similar to a wow warrior, they both use rage, heavy armor and even share some of the same abilities like sunder armor. But as far as how it actually feels to play one it's just not the same.

Rage is build with specific attacks and then you spend it on abilities, and to be frank it plays a lot more akin to how a wow rogue build and spent combo points than it does to how a wow warrior build and spend rage.

So now you have a class that shares some abilities with a wow warriors but get to spend a lot of those abilities like a wow rogue would spend his finishing moves, and that is probably one of the classes with the closest comparison available.

A mercenary would be one of the harder comparisons. They have abilities which have paladin/death knight traits, they have talent trees setup similar to a resto/balance druid, and mobility and attack mechanics similar to a hunter + a few channeled shots like a warlock.

So they're basically a death knight/paladin/hunter/druid/warlock which in terms of ingame feel, feels like none of them at all.

On top of that you have a game that's been running for so long that classes have changed a ton, and people havn't played or quit it at the same times. Take the sniper/gunslinger for instance, they're pretty stationary with long cast times, much like fire mages were when world of warcraft first released, but if you tell someone who has only played cataclysm a sniper/gunslinger is similar to a fire mage he/she'll think you're nuts.
