The OP stated that the game is $60 to buy. Meaning he knows you have to buy the game, then after that it is free to play. He was correct.

People used to say that about games allowing a player to respec their character skills back when MMOs first game out.

Anyway, FTP is the last resort of most non Asian MMOs.

Micro-transactions can help though. If they kept the subscription and added a cash shop which sold fluff they could make a lot more money.

What made Guild Wars 1 suck? Cause all the complaints I have seen about Guild Wars 1, cannot be the same complaints about Guild Wars 2, since Guild Wars 2 really is a different game then Guild Wars 1.

EVE with it's 300,000 subs uses a pay model which pays for free expansions.

I'd rather pay for an updated game, than not pay for a stagnant game.

Honestly I can only think of one MMO that didn't need to go F2P, and that was LOTRO. Every other MMO that went from P2P to F2P it was the last resort. But yeah you are right.

It might be, you mean, as long as its not released those statements are not based on facts.

Free to play => pay to win.

I will not play a F2P game long term, period.

For someone that is a die hard player in a good guild they enjoy, hard to say no to that sort of thing.
As a player of Lotro myself and familiar with the store I would like to know what he needs to spend 25 a month on to raid? Seems to me that he is playing with a group that has no idea what they are doing.
