Seriously?

No, there probably hasn't been a "mass population drop".....yet. But, that doesn't mean it won't ever happen.
of course there has been a mass population drop. and bioware itself offers the proof

they announced early on 1 million box sales....

then they announced 2 million box sales recently....

no new servers were added since even before they announced the 1 million mark had been reached. clearly people are quitting faster than subscribers are being added. they sold another 1 million boxes, yet no new servers were added.

not that this is abnormal. i read an article once on mmorpg.com where some industry insider stated that the average retention rate from a box sale is 20%. an incredibly successful game might be lucky and get 30% for a while but they all tend to average 20%

assuming tor is normal, that leaves this game with about 400K subs...spread out over too many servers and sharding, it makes the game feel empty
In the beginning there was Ultima, and the devs said it was good.
Then there was Star Wars Galaxies, and the devs said oops can we start over.
And now The Old Republic, and the devs said Blizz eat my shorts

Theres been a poll run by another forum user which seems to be quite interesting. Now you can argue its not all accurate but it gives you an interesting picture.

http://i.imgur.com/QysEq.png (Taken from http://www.swtor.com/community/showthread.php?t=312592)

49% of people are Unhappy.

45% of people are happy.

7% of people don't know / didn't make it clear.

almost 50% of those that answered are unhappy with SWTOR and how it is at the moment.

If this has already been brought up then ignore me And yes its been going for a while, but still - people are calling out for changes, mostly it seems at the moment in regards to population on some servers : Bioware need to address it soon - theres been more and more topics being opened and closed by new faces regarding this.

Overall I love the game, but my server lacks the people to make the game fun.

I don't understand it, either. While there are some annoying bugs, there is nothing game-breaking.

I've been playing since first day Early Access, I have two characters at 50, several mid-30's, my Legacy Level is 26, and I still don't see why all the hate on this forum about this game. I've been MMOing for a decade.

I think it's just the "new cool" to be a hater now, or something.

If you have been playing for more than a decade and you are satisfied with the current state of the game and the overall lack of features that says a lot about what you consider quality. However, as many have listed its not bugs why people are leaving, its lack of features and direction. The guild summit is Biowares best chance at giving players some hope of what they envision for the future. After that it will be up to players whether they wait around like people all of a handful of people did for over two years for Aion 3.0. Sadly, I don't think Bioware has nearly that much time if they want to remain profitable at 500,000 subs a month.
Relabeling future patches as Expansions, just like EA Louse said a year ago. Who got the last laugh?

I just have to bluntly say that the game is bad. It looks decent enough that I want to play it, but in a whole it's just a grind or at least feels like that to me. Talk, kill, loot, talk kill, loot.

I would have hoped more diverse game play, meaningful choices, no escort missions, more freedom in character creation, the game is very strict in terms what you can do with each class.

The combat is mediocre, it would be more fun if it was faster(my lightsaber doesn't cut as fast as I though). This list just goes on for ever so I'll stop here...

I always find it interesting that people think an MMO should be "done" when it's a genre that is NEVER "done". To me, it's an unrealistic expectation.

And in my decade of MMOing, I can tell you beyond doubt, that this game is in a better state 2 months from launch than any other MMO I've ever played.

It's people expecting TOR, a two-month-old game, to match the content and gameplay of an MMO that's been out for 8 years that are exceedingly unrealistic.

The game is great. But mostly as a game it is great. When you put MMO next your prized title then there is a list of expectations that come with it.

Also a monthly sub makes people a bit more critical about the end game for example.

In all fairness.. Rift did a good job pushing out the content and fixing the bugs. I'd say the Launch is about the same as Rift, it was probably one of the better ones.

But over all Im still quite impressed with how Rift managed to put together alot in such a short period of time, fixing quite alot of the major problems in the game.

Lets hope this week we hear what 1.2 has to offer. For many it might be a make or break.

Misleading statement.

How many copies did they sell between the first 2 million mentioned and feb. 1st?

How many players were finished with the leveling content feb. 1st?

How many of those retained subs were multiple month packages?

How many of those retained subs = active players?

What did they do in box sales and how many subs have they gained or lost between feb. 1st and march 1st?
