COD has a full story you can play, it has some RPG and of course oodles of PvP. Would they charge a monthly subscription for it? I think not.

When it comes to MMO-ness, I would say (and get flamed) SWTOR is a hybrid between an advanced COD and a poor WOW. I feel it is not MMO enough to justify a monthly subscription. It should be free to connect to the servers just like Diablo, COD, Black Ops etc.
WoW is more like CoD that SWTOR. You sit in the lobby (capital which is just huge chat room) and queue for match (PvE instance or PvP instance with very limited amount of players).
In a controversy the instant we feel anger we have already ceased striving for the truth, and have begun striving for ourselves.

If you prefer playing like you can do in World of Warcraft - then play World of Warcraft.
He is saying that this game is not open world so it's not massive so it's not mmorpg it's single player with multiplayer options.

How hard is it to understand it?Do u have communication or reading problems?

And how hard is it to understand that it IS an mmorpg.... regaurdless of peoples little technical definitions that they think are correct. is it labeled one by the industry? YES. can you have like 24 players playing together? YES... are there 1000s of people on each server regaurdless of wether or not you can see them? YES.

Why is that so hard for you people to understand?

No, I believe that would be you.

There are tons of games (AO, Warhammer, UO) that are not open world. Open world is NOT what defines a MMO. PERIOD.

I am pretty sick of people who haven't ever played anything but WoW pretending their understanding is fact. I'm just going to start putting them on ignore for sanity's sake.

Star Wars: The Old Republic contains:

1. Open worlds
2. The ability to group with multiple players
3. Massive numbers of players per server (3000+)
4. Roleplaying a character you progress along a storyline

Modern Warfare 3 contains:

1. A restrictive lobby
2. Matchmaking
3. 16 players per server
4. Non persistent, small game worlds

Now I'm aware at this point you're pretty much being a troll and that I fell for it by responding, but making you look foolish with facts is worth taking the bait.
1. Planet surfaces are disjointed maps, walled off, made to look like dungeons / corridors and navigated on with plenty of loading screens. Tatoine may be an exception (have only been there once and I ran into an invisible wall no more than 20 yards from Anchorage's back wall). Now if all planet maps were as free to roam as Tatoine (not barren but open) and if I could land my ship and jump out of it, and if I could even use flying mounts that would let me go anywhere, then OK.

3. You can only see between 14-180 players with whom to interact at your zone. Maybe if they merge servers in the future this figure will go up. It may also change as more players reach 50. At the same time it will get worse as players do not play past first month.

As for being FTP... that is not the company's business model. Why change it to something that they have already determined to be less profitable?
Yes I would play it like Fallout3 or like the COD/MW. Under no circumstances would I pay monthly subscription.

This game is a single player game in EXACTLY the same way WoW, WAR, Rift, AoC and most of the other MMOs out there are. Meaning: Its not a single player game at all.

Not really, WOW has 5 major continents which are in themselves individual massive maps. Those maps are wide open there are no loading screens or breakages when you travel anywhere on each of these maps. We can say that these are 5 planets. In SWTOR I am level 22 and I have not stopped running in corridors or walled-out planets. On single track quests.

Others have complained loudly about class balance, combat mechanics, companion mechanics, the auction house, the uncustomisable UI. I hear all of these problems but I am not so concerned. You may have a broken AH and a broken UI and you may have terrible class balance, but it is still an MMO. But you cannot screw up the terain like that and the questing and call that an MMO.

I can understand why some people are happy as it is and some are not. I am only trying to explain what many unhappy players mean by "game on tracks" "themepark" "single player".
