Tanks doing 5K damage need a NERF

"The tank shield"? Are you sure it wasn't just Saber Ward?

 

In theory, of course, a Rage Juggernaut could get Invincible and still put 30 points in the Rage tree. But he won't do those lolsmashes very often without Force Crush and he won't be much of a tank either. Except for 10 seconds every 3 minutes.

 

Except they still have 2 other skills that build the stacks for lol smashes.

Being a tank in pvp just means you have guard, taunts, and generally some cc tools for keeping people off healers, its not the same thing as a pve tank, you can be dps or survivability oriented or somewhere in between. Regardless of if tanks can do 5k damage in a gcd regulary (more like occasionally), even w/ fully bis maxed dps gear they don’t do as much damage as pure dps builds.

That is really not the issue, if you can do %15 less than a dps spec for 30% more mitigation...seems like a good trade off but very unbalanced to those trees that don't have that option.

I see two issues with the discussion really:

 

1. Some believe that Guardians/Juggs (and Shadows for that matter) are tanks period. However, the game itself proposes both roles for them (Tank and DPS!). So if a Guardian or a Shadow gets spec'd and geared for DPS, he should do as well as other DPS classes. There's nothing strange here - you just can't assume he is a tank and call him a tank from his class, not even if he is wearing heavy armor, a specific form or "popping a shield"...

 

If you see a Guardian getting 300K+ in heals, then you are seeing something actually strange, post it in forums..

 

2. Burst damage x sustained damage. This game is all about those little details, and many miss it. So you see a crit going above average and you assume something is wrong. Nope.

 

I'm not saying Force Sweep/Smash should be hitting what it hits today, I'm saying that in order to determine if the class/build is unbalanced, you have to look at the whole picture. Guardian DPS have right now a great OPENER. An opener that Sentinels/Maras can also get by the way... Yes it can crit for 6K. But after that, Guardians have very few options concerning high damage and a much harder time controlling focus. You can't even say they have good BURST DMG really, they have ONE pretty awesome burst damage skill, and that's pretty much it.

 

They balance this fact by having better mitigation than other DPS classes, which is expected because they get heavy armor and a shield generator. But as a pure guardian tank I can tell you this: even spec'd and geared for pvp tanking, mitigation in PvP sucks big time. So don't be so jealous of a Guardian DPS mitigation...
