Playing my first IA sniper, and just got Ballistic Shield. Had a couple quick questions.

Does anyone know if it matters if the attacking mob is inside or outside the shield? I mean logically, you'd think it would only work if you're inside the shield, being attacked by someone outside, but I'm thinking the game mechanic is simpler then that, and just provides flat reduction no matter what.

On a related note, wondering if it reduces all damage by 20%, ranged / melee / powers?

 

I've experimented a bit, and I think the answer is that it does provide a flat 20% reduction regardless of whether the mob is inside or outside the shield, and regardless of the type of attack. That said, it's hard for me to be certain since the attacks vary anyway, and I'm hoping I'm not just seeing what I want to see.

 

If anyone knows for sure, would greatly appreciate the feedback.

it's just a fancy looking aoe effect, as long as you group is inside they receive protection
