I'm 40 reputation points away from reaching champion standing and of course my dailies are all done for today. Do mobs in Section X drop reputation items if so which ones and how frequently? I'd rather hit champ standing today then wait till tomorrow if its at all possible

mobs do drop reputation items but they're pretty rare and their random. you have as good a chance from an elite as from a weak or standard mob. They drop about as frequently as planetary comms so i'd say in the range of .5% of the loot drops. so kill 200 and you'll probably get one. Mostly i've seen them drop the green lvl reputation item (dog tags iirc), and very very rarely i've seen them drop the blue piece
