So with 1.4 my vibroknife turned orange, which rocks. I was wondering though which weapon should I put the better mods in to as i get new and better ones. Idk I seem to melee and range fairly evenly. Which will improve my overall dps more?

Technically it really doesnt matter unless if its a barrel then your rifle 1st.

Upgrading your mainhand (barrel in particular) will increase your damage the most. The damage portion on vibroknives and shotguns don't actually increase damage on those skills, though it will boost the bonus tech damage.

So...I could do battle of ilum HM, get the offhand columi drop ( vibroknife), pull out the mods, stick them in my blaster....and have a columi mainhand weapon...of sorts?

 

I suppose the mods might be slot bound (head, feet, etc.) like everything else above lvl 50.

As far as I understand YES this is the case. Your marauder/Merc brothers has been enjoying this special privilege since 10 month ago wen the game is released.
