Fluctuating Latency on Star Forge

I'm from Singapore and have always had around 200ms latency when playing SWTOR on West Coast servers (most of the time below 200ms)

But recently I've been getting randomly fluctuating latency anywhere from 250 to 900 ms, making the game neigh unplayable.

I found this IP online and am not sure whether it's relevant to any of the servers, but my tracert and ping as follows:

It would seem from your tracer route that your problem is around hops 9, 10, & 11. Most likely there's a flakey hub in there which will be fixed at some point.

(So, your problem is with internet routing, not the BW servers.)

Not necessarily.

I’m assuming the OP is playing from Australia or other APAC country. They are similar pings as mine across the pacific.(but mine are a little better).

I’ve not been on today, so I can’t say if I’m also seeing the same issue. But last night the server felt laggy, even though the meter was steady and my connection showed I was good all the way to the server.

To the OP, Windows Tracert is a good start, but it’s extremely limited in localising the issue live.

Please download PingPlotter from http://www.pingplotter.com (there is a free version and you don’t need to give them any info). Network professionals use the paid version as a first port of call.

It allows you to basically run a live tracer/ping command together continuously to show (graphically) where the problems and spikes are occurring.

All you do is put the IP address in and run. You will see 2 nice graphs and also have columns for current ping at each hop, highest ping, lowest ping, average ping, packet loss and it will also show if there are errors at each hop.

The info for each IP is better too.

You can even save this info to send to your ISP or Bioware if you need to.

Once you get the info, please post it and I/we can have a look at where/what maybe causing it.
