Ballad of the Scrapper

In news that's sure to shake the music world, it has recently been discovered that Kenny Rodgers' famous, heartstring-plucking hit "The Gambler" was in fact based upon a much older song. Apparently named "The Scrapper", how it made its way to us is unknown, given that the original appears to have been written a long time ago, in a galaxy far, far away.

In any case, we are fortunate enough to be able to reproduce the original lyrics for you here today.

The Scrapper

On a warm summer's evening,

on a shuttle bound for nowhere,

I met up with the scrapper;

we were both too tired to sleep.

So we took turns a starin',

out the window at the darkness

'Til boredom overtook us,

and he began to speak.

He said, "Son, I've made my life,

out of smashing people's faces,

and knowing what their spec was

by the way they held their eyes.

So if you don't mind me saying,

I can see you're out of aces.

For a taste of your kolto

I'll give you some advice."

So I handed him my bottle,

and he drank down my last swallow.

Then he bummed a cigarette,

and asked me for a light.

The night got deathly quiet,

his face lost all expression.

Said, "If you're gonna PvP, boy,

ya gotta learn to play it right.

You got to know when to kill 'em,

know when to stun 'em,

Know when to cloak away

and know when to run.

You never count your damage

when you're sittin' at the mid node.

There'll be time enough for counting

when the killing's done.

Now every scrapper knows

that the secret to survival

Is knowing when to skulk away

and knowing when to sleep.

'Cause every game's a winner

and every game's a loser,

And the best that you can hope for

is to die in a heap."

So when he'd finished speaking,

he turned back to the window,

Crushed out his cigarette,

and faded off to sleep.

And somewhere in the darkness

the scrapper, he broke even.

But in his final words

I found an ace that I could keep.

You got to know when to kill 'em,

know when to stun 'em,

Know when to cloak away

and know when to run.

You never count your damage

when you're sittin' at the mid node.

There'll be time enough for counting

when the killing's done.
