Space Missions are TOO DAMN HARD

Recommended Posts

I just want to rage about these goddam heroic space missions!! I'm fully decked in all the Level 7 gear on my ship and I can't even make it midway thru alive. I dodge the fighter fire, I move around using keys and mouse, continuously firing back and yet my ship KEEPS DYING. I've even tried studying up on all the missions, watching videos, trying EVERYTHING. *** BW?!

stop continually firing. Give your shields time to recharge. You have to be selective with your blaster fire, and torpedos. If you're shields are getting zapped, stop firing, and put on your shield regen and only fire missles until you're back up and running, then selectively drop your regen for the power to the blasters. Use your ship powers in the right spots. Go to Dulfy.net and look at her guides they helped me when I originally had trouble. Edited by Shwarzchild

I personally don't count these missions as space combat, i love space sims, i HATE this games' space combat, rail combat feature is just a tool used by lazy developers.

What i have learnt from the combat missions is that the lasers are like heat-seekers, regardless if you move out of the way, they track you, so having the ability to roll is only useless to avoid some debris, the bigger asteroids is all about where you are positioned.

If its going to hit you, its going to hit you regardless if you try to dodge.

They definently aren't too hard, and everything has been said already on how to beat them. Although the blaster fire is definently avoidable but you have to barrel roll all around the screen in the right pattern to avoid it...I basically spam my spacebar half the mission and barely take any damage and switch between my shields and blaster upgrades everytime depending on whether I am shooting or not. Just keep trying, look up guides, simple solution.

I use the barrel roll less and less. Just moving the ship in the right pattern is better.

^^^ this. I suspect also that people having trouble may be switching unnecessarily to shield recharge during heavy fire times. This is RARELY a benefit, and will often be detrimental, since in a lot of cases, a good offense can be the best defense (the guns can't hurt you if they're destroyed). The only time I find shield charging necessary while trying to kill things is during Cha Raaba when you've got mines and 4 targets all to deal with at once. Not that charging shields is useless, there are often completely (or nearly so) downtime periods where charging back up is critical.

Are you actually using your EMP, Electronic Countermeasures, and Conversion Module? There are specific times that the devs pretty much *designed* for you to need to use the EMP and/or ECM in order to succeed, and you're pretty much assumed to be toggling to Power to Blasters whenever you're blasting and Power to Shields whenever you're not. The heroic space missions aren't designed under the assumption that you're not using every tool at your disposal. They're designed under the assumption that you're actually using everything *in addition* to knowing how to dodge rocks and use proper target priority.

still too hard and no fun

And yes I am using everything at my disposal, even when the guides suggest TO use the EMP and such. It's just too difficult. I don't get it, I've tried EVERYTHING. I want to enjoy this, I love space combat stuff, but this is just absurd!

Some like it hard and long.

Soft, short and easy are still there.

There is a reason why they are called 'Heroics'.

It's not like you missing anything out by not doing it, and it's matter of practice. In past minefield was considered 'hard', and one could fail it fro time to time. Now it's a walk in a park.

Nothing worth having comes easy.

Hey OP, don't let the responders get you down. There are always a few people in the crowd that can plow through difficult content via tenacity or natural skill and have no qualms telling everyone it's easy. I'm right there with you. I just got my ship geared out and I'm finding these mission more irritating than enjoyable.

And I get it. After doing nothing but Ascendancy Barrier, Clouds of Vondoru and Aeten Defense you are ready for something new, and you get this. Oh well.

I represent the "Space Missons are TOO DAMN HARD" party. I log into the game and put RP clothes on my guy! He's ready to go space hunting. But he can't... Why? You said it, cause Space Missions are TOO DAMN HARD!"

Do you hear that child crying? She's crying because her father can't put food on her plate. She's crying because he can no longer pretend he's StarFox in this game... Why? The Space Missions are TOO DAMN HARD!"

You might want to try downgrading your Beam Generator to the Rendili Hyperworks Beam Generator instead of the Blast Condenser. I know the math means 6 bolts x 200 damage is better than 10 bolts x 100 (or 110 depending on upgrades) but in practice the missions contain so many one-hit-kill nuisances that I find the extra blaster damage less appealing than hitting enemies faster. I find it much easier to complete missions using the following equipment;

Ship Armour - G6 (extra health isn't required when you learn how to dodge plus gives extra 5 blaster damage)

Shield Regen -G7 or G6. (G7 means you can take more hits, G6 is an extra 5 blaster damage)

Energy Shield - G7

Beam Charger - G7

Beam Generator - G6

Missile Magazine - G7

Power Converter - G7

EMP - G7

Warfare Pod - G7

Proton Torpedos

I run the missions on multiple characters, they take a good number of attempts to learn the circuits and work out when its best to use EMP, Warfare Pod and power converter but once you get "it" the missions become very easy. I also subscribe to the circle about the screen method, barrel rolling has gotten me into more trouble than its saved me from.

If they are too hard you are doing them wrong. You have to use your abilities efficiently. and just in case you don't know, you can buy upgrades for your ship.... I have no problem with the heroic space missions even getting the bonus objectives without my health going below 3/4.

Maybe its time for this: U cant finish the Heroic space missions? think they are

to hard?

If u can get it on video.. show us 1 or 2 attempts. With G7 gear this missions are easy as hell.

Once i see a new post about " uhuh Heroic space is impossible and to hard" i only get in mind.. this guy crushes into asteroids or crates all the time or this couldnt be true.

Maybe its really lag on a few machines but for the rest.. if u can get it on video.. upload and link it into this chat so ppl

can help and suggest whats going wrong

This is a good idea. With a vid of what you're doing we could pin point what's going wrong for you. Are you using the A S W D keys along with the mouse when you're in open areas?

The lasers are not heat seeking as some have said. They track you yes. Stay in one position then pop up to another part of the screen and you'll see they'll still be firing at your last position, then pop to another part of the screen. They'll be one step behind you. When the small fighters are coming at you fire at them but use the A S D and W keys to go in a circle while you control your reticle with the mouse. You won't get hit nearly as much as some have alluded to.

Nobody expects someone new to these missions to get them on the first or second shot. It took me about 4-6 tries to beat Cha Raaba. Then, it took me another 2-3 times when I was first getting used to it to beat it. Now, I can beat it regularly. Don't give up, keep plugging away. Get us a vid, and we can give you more advice then the general stuff.

A few things:

Thanks to everyone who has been encouraging and supportive. I really do appreciate it and its pushed me to keep trying despite failing more often than not. I actually just completed Lorta Escort by the skin of my teeth, but am getting the hang of that one at least.

As far as what I'm doing wrong...I keep seeing that I need to use my keys to move while my mouse to aim and fire. The problem is, when I move my mouse, the ship moves int hat direction as well, contradicting where I want to go with my keys, is there a way to shut that off? Is that working as intended?

Also, to BanthaRaider, I used to be a member of LXB back in the day in SWG, I know they're on PUB side now, but did the guild reconstitute on IMP?

EDIT: Completed Mission was Lorta Escort not Duma Strike...

You'll get there OP. Lorta was the first one i completed successfully too, and it was by the skin of my teeth. Now I have all 6 missions on farm and run them weekly on 6 different toons (yes, I know, I am more than a little crazy).

That said, I believe the most important thing to know about these missions is that they take a lot of PRACTICE. Practice, practice, practice, and you will find that eventually you have them all down.

Good luck and happy hunting!!!

PS That is working as intended. If you use arrow keys to move, when you aim with your mouse you will get a certain amount of cancellation of your efforts to move. I know many people use the arrow keys, and that works for them. I use only the mouse, and that works fine for me. Again, as I said above, it just takes a lot of practice. Once you get them on farm, it's really quite rewarding. I'm extremely glad they have added these missions to the game, and I look forward to them hopefully adding more in the future. Edited by Fubarq

It's WAI. The mouse targeting determines your "base" position; the keyboard input determines your position relative to your "base" position, as determined by your targeting reticule. Using the mouse to aim and your keyboard to move around (most often, I just do big circles) allows you to maintain fire on a target while still avoiding incoming fire. It's not really needed for the non-heroic missions, but, on the heroic missions it's pretty much required: if you're not moving while there are enemies on the screen, you're taking a lot of damage that you're supposed avoid through dodging, and, if you're not focusing blaster and missile fire on you enemies, you're not going to take enough of them out to finish.
