The Dread Masters

SPOILERS AHEAD

So I was going through Belsavis on my Sith Sorcerer and I came across the quest where you have

Free the Dread Masters from the Esh-ka

It was a fun questline and the Dread Masters are indeed very intimidating. I really liked their addition. Now, the codex states that the Dread Masters are

powerful Sith Lords who have served the Sith Emperor for centuries as prophets, generals and advisors. Their name was earned when they studied the power of the Phobis devices, artifacts that have driven even the most depraved Sith mad with terror. This power allowed the Dread Masters to destroy entire Republic fleets during the Great War, until they were captured and imprisoned on Belsavis. The Dread Masters were known to spend years in secluded meditation on Dromund Kaas, emerging only to bring their wisdom to the Emperor or accept gifts from supplicants. Over the decades, they have become inseparable, their immense strength in the Force coming only from all six masters working in unison. Should the Empire ever succeed in freeing them from Belsavis, the galaxy will tremble before them again.

My question is this. What role will they play in the upcoming conflict? Do they show up in the Republic storylines on Belsavis at all?

They are the new big bad. They were behind the events on Denova and will be involved in the next couple of operations as well. They have betrayed the Empire and are working on their own now.

Hmm, makes me wonder if they will be involved in the next storyline updates, whenever they arrive..

I'd say it's a safe bet that the Dread Masters will likely be the focus of most of the new content coming out. I kind of doubt we'll be getting any new class story until a full expansion, but world arcs(Makeb, for example) will heavily deal with them.

Actually, they're the main character in all operations.

It eternit vault, you freeing them woke up equally powerful Soa, the eternal one.

In karagga's palace, the hutt cartel is regaining terf lost to the dread masters.

In explosive conflict, they corrupted the mercenary and imperial forces on Denova to serve them.

(future) terror from beyond, they are opening portals releasing ancient enemies in gree space, so you stop them (confirmed)

They are also confirmed to take place in the makeb story.

Technically they have betrayed the Empire, but look at it from their POV. The spent numerous years locked away in stasis, they get awakened and freed by our Imp toons and take a look around them at the Empire;the Dark Council has been decimated, Malgus is dead, The Emperor(for all intents and purposes) is dead as far as the galaxy knows and is in the slow process of piecing himself back together to jump into a different body.

The Dread masters took all this in and said " Hey, there's a power vacuum, time for us to step in." They don't like the current version of the Empire and they despise the Republic, so they are planning to raze everything and build a new Empire under their leadership from the ashes.

A fairly big non-spoiler is that we know what happens to The Empire. Something like 800 years after TOR is the Darth Bane era. By that point there isn't a unified Sith any longer and the pure bloods are extinct. From the books we more or less how it happens too. There isn't some big climactic victory for the Republic, the nature of the Sith is their undoing. They fracture into a dozen different Sith Orders who all turn on each other and give the Jedi a chance to get their act together. The Dread Masters are the beginning of the end of the Empire.

It will still be fairly cool to see how it all goes down though. :D

You completely skipped over Darth Ruin and his Empire, which comes before the Brotherhood of Darkness and then Bane and is thought to be built from pockets of Sith that survived from this era along with his Fallen Jedi.

All we know from the lore is that this version of the Sith Empire ceased to be,they could have destroyed themselves, they could have been beaten by the Republic, they could tire of war and joined the Republic, hell they could have won the war at some great cost(like a majority of the Purebloods) and put on the face of the Republic. The point is we don't know and it allows for freedom in the lore for the writers.

The Dread Masters are one of many major threats and it's pretty tough to point to them as the begining of the end. The Hutt Cartel is beginning to make a power play, the Star Cabal is still around, Malgus's apprentice is running around probably a bit peeved and we still have the Emperor drama.

You could see it as an expansion for the game 'The Return of the Emporer' or somewhere along those lines :p

1. if they're so powerful, how were they captured?

2. why not just kill them? that's the question with just about every prisoner on belsavis

1. Simple, they fell into the old cliche of thinking their power made them invincible, they got overconfident and got beaten and then captured.

2. If you played KOTOR at all you'd know the Jedi do not kill their prisoners. Instead they imprison them or screw with their minds a la Revan. What they should have done at the very least was separate them in Belsavis, as they are more powerful together. The Republic had to learn the hard way to at least put them in stasis after they killed every living thing within a mile radius in their prison until the Republic smartened up enough and put them to sleep.

They aren't typical renegades per se. The saw a power vacuum in the Empire and merely stepped in to fill it. They believe the current Empire is weak though and want to purge the weakness and rebuild from the ashes as well as destroy the Republic once and for all.

As soon as you freed them and they displayed their power you had to know it was going to come back and bite us in the butt eventually.

I wish BW would get away from our Imperial BAMFs being more of a threat to the Empire(see;Sith Emperor,Darth Malgus,Dread Masters) and let some of them start to put the hurt on the Republic. I know they do it so they don't have to create new bosses and Operations for each faction, but it's getting to become too predictable.

1) The Dread Masters are non-combatants and, being sith, don't have much of a connection to each other. The codex states that they meditate and/or accept gifts from supplicants as well as updating the emperor what the latest thing they saw in regards to future is. It isn't stated that the fight wars, just being the generals of armies, this doesn't have to be a combative position either. Due to the fact that they favour wielding fear, it is very likely that they felt that they wouldn't have had to even enter melee combat as everyone just lost their will to fight/fainted/peed their pants . . .among other things and therefore can't attack.

How you separate them is another can of worms as you would need at least a few master jedi and a lot of folk that are used to working through primal fear (that could be developed by facing manny, many sith and surviving the encounters). But, once they are separated and alone, I'll wager that it'll be an easy victory.

2) It is as Temeluchus said,
