"She told me she was 18, officer!" problems with Nadia Grell.

Of the 5 characters I've played so far, Nadia has been my favourite companion, with Sith Jaesa being a close second. Unfortunately she was handled poorly in the Consular story, so your boy is here to complain about it today.

Of all the companions, she seems the most rushed. First of all, she was introduced way too late into the story. She's an important part of the Warden's path as a Jedi Master, yet the devs didn't bother to give you any companion missions with her, which I found extremely odd given that Qyzen Fess, the most boring Consular companion, has 3 companion missions that are about absolutely nothing. The overall lack of Companion missions in this game is disappointing, but even more so for Nadia.

Secondly, why in the world did they try to make her seem so young? Officially she's 22, the oldest female companion behind Elara, yet she acts more like she's 16. The game goes out of its way to make her seem like a daddy's little princess that needs to be protected. Under normal circumstances, this would be okay.

But then...They went and made her a romance option. The only romance option for the Consular. Not only do players have the image of an innocent 16 year old girl in their heads by this point, but she's also your student, which gives her an even more youthful appearance. I had to keep telling myself that she's actually 22, which is never a good sign. Ever. I'm 19, I'll be 20 later this month. If a 19 year old is thinking a 22 year old seems too young, something's not right. It has nothing to do with how she looks, she could physically pass as 22, it's the way the devs portrayed her that made it seem that way.

Nadia was introduced in Act II. You just don't get to use her until later. Every class only gets one companion who has actual, go somewhere and do something missions. Usually that's the first companion you get except for the Jedi Knight where it's Kira.

Probably because I'm old, but she looks and acts 22 to me. *shrug* 22 is still very, very young.

Respectfully, I don't think you have a proper frame of reference yet. Maybe you're just mature for your age, I've known 30 year olds who seem less mature than Nadia.

Just my 2 c.

The only companions with true missions are your first companion (except the JK). All of the others are only conversations. So it's no different than any other class or companion.

Nadia's not immature. She's a bit naive. There's a difference. And Qyzen's story-arc did have meaning. It may not have been great, but it did have meaning.

If you want to complain about something that is "out of place" then you should be complaining about Ashara's refusal to marry, but her willingness to "breed" for the SI. "Don't make me go against my teachings." While she kills repeatedly for the SI and is his willing concubine.

She is extremely childlike which isn't the least bit attractive at all, just another useless JC companion among the many of them. If it makes you feel any better, the male romance option for female JCs ain't much better. I'd say space the lot of them minus Qyzen and Zenith.

Which companion do you have in mind or tomorrow's discussion btw?

Haven't thought about it yet. Probably Emperor Vitiate, I just started KOTFE and I'm curious about his apparent immortality.

I take it this was discussed often in the past? Like I said, I like Nadia and I like the romance, but it just too often feels like a high school student wanting to sleep with her hot Social Studies teacher.

This is especially true when you can find this exact context in a SWTOR smut fic...

In literally half of the US, the legal age of consent is 16. The rest weave between 17 and 18.

Most of Europe it's between 14 and 16, with a few 17 and 18 countries.

Nadia is 22.

She's sheltered, not a child. Maybe go out in the world a bit more and interact with actual humans. Women aren't magic, you know. They're real. Try talking to some.

Sleeping with a fictional character that doesn't exist does not make you a pedophile, no.

It wouldn't be pedophilia even if she were real and she were actually 16. She'd have to be prepubescent. I just thought it was really odd how they portrayed her and the relationship. It's even weirder since the Consular always has such proper and professional dialogue. The romance is fine, she's supposed to be 22. It's just the way it was portrayed that makes it weird.

A fictional character in a world that doesn't actually exist depicting a very different set of cultures in a far away place and far away time... but then, to certain modern people, most of our ancestors must have been "pedophiles" due to the earlier average age of marriage in earlier eras.

I mean, if you're playing the Consular to the Jedi code, he shouldn't be interested at all. :p

The creepiest part about it I find is the whole student/teacher relationship.

The naivete is a real turn off, on a "personal" level, but I don't think it's "creepy" per se.

She reminds me a lot of the more immature people in high school when they first learn about socialism (or heaven forbid, utopian socialism). They dive straight into the ultra-left ideological deep end, and get confused, or even angry, when someone doesn't agree with their new worldview. Nadia just has way too much of the "why can't we all get along? Why are their bad people in the world? Why would anyone want to hurt/manipulate us?" stuff going on for me to be able to take her seriously.

*to keep this from turning into a political discussion, I'm not saying socialism is bad in of itself, just the tendency for young people to chomp on hook, line and sinker.

Nonsense. Even Consulars have flaws. Satele Shan is a Consular, yet not only did she break that portion of the code, she got knocked up and abandoned her kid.

Jedi are allowed to have kids, they're not allowed to love.

If not consider the official indicated age, I do agree that Nadia do behave somewhat like a young girl, maybe someone around 16~18.

But I think Ashara maybe the "youngest" in term of behavior in the game, as always felt she is more like a young teen around 13~15 rather than 20.

Maybe in space age human and alien alike mature slower. :(
