Question to those of you that finished all 8 origin stories

Hey guys!

I am seriously considering playing through all 8 class stories. I have a few of them already started (during the 12x XP boost mostly) but I feel that I've missed out on planetary story arcs so I'm planning on restarting all the stories. My main gripe with this (don't get me wrong I LOVE the story) is that I'll have to play the same quests/planets etc. again. Good thing is that leveling through the story has gotten significantly easier since 4.0 kicked in. My question to you is as follows: how did you guys cope with the repetition?

And yes I know that there are "movies" on youtube made of SWTOR cinematics but I want to experience the story without spoiling the fun :) It's way more gratifying IMHO :)

Thanks

We tend to sometimes look at each other and then make a comment depending on what the npc says. When they tell us "we are the only ones that can handle it" we look at each other and said "Again, why always us?" and go from there.

Of course we are both roleplayers at heart.

Sometimes with our class story if someone tells my character you are going to die he will respond with "Not while I'm around, she won't."

I have all 8 classes and 6 more characters for different advanced classes. I've been playing on and off since beta, so all of those were leveled at different times and at different stages of the game.

My first few oldest characters had to do all the quests to level, including planet and side missions. On the newer ones, I mostly just did class, then a lot of flashpoints and PvP and some planet and side quests for additional xp. One good thing about having done them already is that you can skip the ones you don't like and do the ones you like. Of course, xp boosts are very useful.

Leveling with a friend is great if you're doing content you've already seen. My friend and I leveled a few characters just for the fun of it, because we were just chatting and goofing around and it went by pretty fast.

very good question, what I did was alternate, imp, pub, force user, non force user, also i played some against type, or more neutral, balance this with playing a char a bit more once maxed level to get content done, things like story ops, planet quests after main story, flashpoints etc

<<how did you guys cope with the repetition? >>

It didn't feel repetitive to me <except the Revan fight which I did 40 times to get weapons for all my companions.... <G>

I varied it up with male/female, light side, dark side, different species. Plus I had done all the companion quests, etc.

For Achievements I varied things as well - i.e. my bounty hunter went and hunted all the "named npcs" on Voss, my agent started the shroud quest first, etc.

Speaking of shroud quest - I still haven't finished the heroic and now, with it being heroic 4 at level 65....gawd. I don't think I will ever manage it. - although unlike the other heroics, the "reward" listed for completing it doesn't seem to be updated.

I leveled 6 chars pre 12xp boost and each time I did every quest there over and over again I probably mindtricked myself to keep going.

Honestly, I am suprised by how little players have the legendary status lol

I thought that everyone is going to have it but even on the fleet you barely run into any guys with the status so I feel kinda special lel, even more special than when using the founder title.

I would agree with the above posters; the key is to switch up as much as possible. Alignment, gender, species, combat role and advanced class can all change. I also concentrate on only one or two companions per playthrough to give each time its own flavor. (Two originally, but only one with 12x xp since I lost the affection gains from non-class missions. Although now that they unlock with class story, it's less of an issue.)

That gave me:

Light female mirialan DPS shadow, Nadia and Tharan

Dark male miraluka healer sage, Qyzen

Lightish male human tank guardian, Kira romance and T7

Dark female chiss DPS sentinel, Scourge

Neutral male zabrak healer commando, Elara romance and Jorgan

Light female human DPS vanguard, M1-4X (will gain Theron romance)

Darkish male cathar DPS gunslinger, Risha romance and Guss

Light female togruta DPS scoundrel, Bowdaar (will gain Koth romance)

Dark male pureblood DPS sorcerer, Khem and Xalek

Light female twilek tank assassin, Talos

Neutral female cyborg DPS marauder, Vette and light Jaesa (will gain Lana romance)

Dark male cyborg DPS juggernaut, dark Jaesa romance

Darkish male rattataki healer operative, Kaliyo romance and Temple

Light female human DPS sniper, Vector romance

Lightish male chiss tank powertech, Mako romance and Blizz

Dark female rattataki DPS mercenary, Torian romance

I favored parent/child relationships:

- My light agent and my dark warrior are the divorced parents of my neutral warrior.

- My light knight and Kira are the parents of my light trooper.

- My dark agent and Kaliyo are the parents of my dark bounty hunter.

- My light bounty hunter and Mako are the parents of my dark knight.

I never really found it that boring because of the fact that there are some pretty decent stories, and some rather enjoyable playstyles. I'd only gotten one character to 50 back when the game launched (my BH) and had an Inq at about level 40 or so before taking a long break. When I returned properly, it was with the 12x bonus, so I could skip all the superfluous stuff on planets and focus on the unique dialogue within each story arc.

There's also the fun of weaving enactable class story into RP and working out what simply can't work keeps it fresh.

I'd say the main reason there aren't more people with the 8 class stories done is because even with skipping all superfluous content, it's still between 10-14 hours of playing to get to SoR, then a little more beyond that.

That's stil qute an investment of time across 8 characters. It works out at close to 100 hours without any prior level 60's and that's not taking into consideration the time required on those that you did manage beforehand. Certainly my BH and Inq had over 50 hours combined on them alone.

I do hate that some specialisation paths have terrible AoE utility though, which given how mobs are in the game feels criminal.

they just do not think about it, so the grind, the repetition, doesn't bother them.

The way I see it, it's not a "grind" if you're having fun. It's only a "grind" if you're not having fun. I think "grind" does not refer to content itself so much as it refers to our feeling about that content. If we have fun doing a thing it won't feel like a "grind."

So, I'd say "grind" is pretty subjective. One player could go through a class story twenty times without feeling like any of it was a "grind." Another player might feel that doing it just once is a "grind." :)

Alternating can keep things fresh, just as long as you're not alternating the same level toons on the same planets at the same time. I alternated a bit, but then would focus on one at a time from around level 30 to max level before I came back to another one.

The origin stories are good, and the only repetition that I experienced was on the same side quests over and over (unless I was on 12 XP) I can tell you that I would gladly play all 8 origin stories over again compared to what they have us doing after we are maxed.

I have 9 max level toons which includes one of each class on both sides. Doing origin stories was great! different and engaging. However int he expansion worlds playing the same story over and over (and over, and over) again on Makeb, Oricon, Revan, and KOTFE... you wanna talk about repetition... it is almost like torture.

Enjoy the origin stories.

What is the "reward" for finishing all 8 stories? They seem to be pushing that with the little meter on the left of the login screen.

legendary status on your portrait and an icon in your name

also you get some extra presence but I dont know how much

I levelled 12 characters the long way- no boosts, no nothing - did /doing the other 4 ( for a full AC spread) with 12xp and WZ, GSF and the rest. - Almost there! Was living legend a long time ago - but never gave it much thought. - Though plenty on my server.

- As others have said, jump around a bit - maybe each chapter- but don't leave anyone for too long- lest you forget what was going on.

Playing a different AC, role and gender and LS or DS also helps - seeing where it gets you. DS human gunslinger DPS LS male plays quite different from LS scoundrel sawbones Sith female for instance.

It is surprising how much you forget and some of the nuggets you remember. But the worst part is the endless fighting mobs, and long corridors, huge landscapes and orbital stations- and all those things which do nothing meaningful except slow down progress.

- Probably was a great idea five years ago:

"Hey people will sub 10% longer if we waste their time getting absolutely nowhere for 10% of the game!"

Depends on the classes. Some of the stories, I thoroughly enjoyed so that I was easily able to repeat and repeat and then repeat again. I have played through the Smuggler story no less than three times, besides the one I leveled in the beta of the game to near end-game. I have 2 Bounty Hunters, 2 Sith Warriors and 2 Jedi Knights. I'm most likely going to repeat the Agent story again; I'm writing that character's story down into a fanfiction and just want to play it through again.

Then there is the Trooper class story, that I played through twice. But only because I ultimately wanted a Commando more than a Vanguard and suffered through the story again in order to get a Trooper healer. That dude, I simply space-barred my way through the entire thing. I didn't dislike the Consular or Inquisitor stories, but I wasn't bamboozled enough to play them through more than once.

So for me, it's just about seeing it. And if I like it, I'll play it multiple times through.
