His luck sucks:

Born fatherless- enslaved from birth.
Meets hot girl - she's too old.
Gets cool mentor (Qui-gon)- he dies.
Becomes padawan - repeatedly loses sabre.
Meets hot girl again - after joining order than bans sex.
Goes to free his mum - she dies.
Fights bad guy - loses arm.
Finally marries hot girl - can't tell anyone.
Gets new mentor - he's evil.
Gets to rebel against authority - has to kill kids.
Gets hot girl pregnant - she leaves him.
Fights old friend - loses the rest of his limbs/is burned to a crisp.

Hot girl dies in exile, his kids go into foster care, his old friends turn their backs on him and everyone, everywhere hates him.

To compensate, he gets a deep voice and a cool suit. Which he can't take off.

The Force works in mysterious ways, or something like that.

His story was that of tragedy. Its easy to forget that with out badly it was told in the PT.

Well yeah, he is a model example of a Greek tragic hero. There is no way to dodge prophecy.

Fixed that for ya.

Anakin being a whiny, self-important brat throughout the PT does tend to cloud the whole 'tragedy' thing. Especially with how frequently 'I must save Padme' gets overshadowed by, "The Jedi don't give me enough respect, but Palpatine tells me I'm pretty!" .

All tragic heroes are flawed. That's the point. Anakin couldn't have been this cool, collected and self-assured in the prequels. If he had been, then it would have been ridiculous for him to have fallen. It's why his son was similarly flawed in the OT and only after seeing where he was headed turned forever from evil (Dark Empire did not happen. ).

I don't think it's just because his story is one of tragedy. That would make sense if he was a shining example of light to the galaxy, who tragically turned out flawed and fell to the dark side....

No, this is really a story about who guy who without fail always grasps the poo-coated end of the stick.

Let's look further:

Captures Leia - she escapes.
Made boss of amazing space station - loses plans.
Gets to fight old nemesis - who uses magic trick to cheat Anakin of revenge.
Takes on rebels personally - space station is destroyed.

Attacks rebel base - they escape.
Finally catches up with son - who rejects him.
Has cunning plan to capture son - who also escapes.

Tries to impress boss by capturing son (again) - boss betrays him.
Fights son - gets his hand cut off (again)
Fights boss - gets zapped to death by lightning.
Gets put in charge of amazing space station - space station is destroyed (again).

He should have stayed a nerfherder.

Also don't forget the most important "Unlucky moment"

  • Anaklin actor is diliked by George Lucas, who immediatly makes him have awkward moments in the whole PT
