2-Man Hardmode Eternity Vault Cleared!

Recommended Posts

My friend and I have just cleared HM EV as a 2-man group. As far as we know, we are the first duo to accomplish this. We cleared this on June 7th, 2013. I would also like to note that all 5 of the boss fights were done with just the two of us. We both reside on The Harbinger server and our group consisted of Marisi (Mercenary Healer/Dps) and Chi'koda (Marauder Dps/tank). :p

This was a very enjoyable and fun experience for us both, it was great to accomplish this feat. To be honest the operation itself was relatively easy to do with only two people, with the exception of one fight.... and that fight, was definitely those dreadful pylons....

The problem with the pylons wasn't so much that the elites still hurt (which they do), but instead the 250 seconds really doesn't grant much leeway with the 30s lockout per rotation, which meant that we both had to have puzzles that were 8 moves each. Sometimes we got lucky and after zoning in or resetting we both had 8s but more often that not one or none of us would. In some of the extreme cases it took an hour of resetting (60 resets all up) to get 2 8s.

Even with 2 8s, after you take away 7 rotations worth of lockouts, the time it takes to channel the rotation console, the time it takes to confirm the wheel and the final second it takes to register both sides as complete, we were left with about 4 seconds of time in which we could mess up, including time for lag, so it was incredibly unforgiving.

Although we spent countless hours on these horrible pylons, we finally got them down!

So that's enough rambling on my part, here are the videos! Enjoy!!! :)

Big thanks to Marisi for being the best Healer/Dps/Tank for the job! Also for just being super awesome! Woooo! Yay us!

Bravo! Gotta say, it adds to the "Epic-ness" of the characters we play. I strongly believe that this ih how amazing our toons are in the universe.

I gather you were the Mara, so not sure if you can answer this: How did the Merc decide on which cell to use for each boss? I see it was the armor-piercing for Gharj but Healing for Soa. I also see she switched mid-fight.

Achievement that popped during the infernal council vid says you beat them on 16m storymode. I actually don't know if that's more or less impressive with two vs 8 man hardmode, though.

Some of the achievements for 8 man hard mode EV and 16 man storymode EV are swapped. I ran 16 man storymode EV the other day and the Puzzle and the gear check both gave the hard mode achievements. Edited by GrovesK

Yes that is correct, the operations seem to be bugged with their achievements. For some reason we received the 16-man story mode achievement. Although I can assure you that this was completed on 8-man HM. Because,

A) On story mode there is no lockout debuff that you receive from turning the wheel once, if I'm not mistaken this is solely a HM/NiM mechanic.

B) Again if I'm not mistaken, in 16 man the Rakata Guardian adds would appear to be much larger in scale than they are in the video.

Many operations are bugged with their achievements, for example my guild wanted to clear 16 NiEC for fun and for some reason on completing the Kephess fight, we received the 16-man story mode achievement. So I'm sure this is just a bug and I apologize for not making a note of it before, to avoid confusion.

Marisi decided which cylinders to use based on the fights themselves. For example, I'm sure she determined it by deciding what was needed more, dps or heals. We also 2-manned this on sm pre 2.0 speding time on on that and have had plenty of practice figuring out which fights were more heal or dps intensive. She found out which fights she needed to be full heals in or which she could sacrifice heal tree skill points to put higher into the Arsenal tree to deal more dps needed to beat the enrage timers.

I'm sure she could answer this question much better! :p

I was actually arsenal for the entire thing except for the first 2 phases of Soa as you noticed as my basic heals were enough for the first 2 but I didn't think it would be for the platforming part during Soa, plus DPS really wasn't an issue for these phases. For the Droid I really should have put points into reduced heal pushback because between the missile barrage and the DoT my rapid scan was taking somewhere around 4-5s to actually finish casting.

When we did it in Story Mode pre-expansion I had to be a lot more selective and swapped between all 3 depending on the fight, but not so much this time. I took points away from the alacrity and improved vent heat talents and put them into the improved jet boost and into energy rebounder for the Pylons, both of which helped me a lot during the elites. I actually forgot to move them back before we did the Council fight as well so I kinda overheated a little too much...

Very nicely done!

I'm curious though, how did you handle the other side of the pylons? Which spec were you using? :)

Chi'koda was using a standard annihilation spec for this fight. His side was definitely harder than mine was and he had to use a combination of correctly timed defensive CDs, AoE stun, force camouflage and a cybertech stun grenade to get through it. :)

Also, just as an aside, we had about a second to go on the pylons before they reset!

Congrats Koda (and Marisi, but she only gets secondary mention since she didn't post this ;)).

Thanks. :p

Ok, me and a buddy are attempting this, but keep getting shafted on Gharj because the adds always beeline toward the Mando/Merc. How did you guys deal with them, because I see them always go straight for the Mara in your videos.

Great challenge, great players, great video ;)

I also did the Droid pre2.0 in NM with my scoundrel partner.

We didn't tried the other bosses but now I want to try ;)

Yodelhnir (Mantle of the force - EU)

Yeah 2-man is definitely a challenging, fun, and sometimes agonizing experience. Although in the end, it was really satisfying to finish the whole Operation on HM.

A lot of the time the adds came straight to me (I'm the Mara btw :p), although in the event that they went after Marisi (Merc) A dual saber throw through them usually brought them to me, and then from there Marisi just used DFA and wipe them out. If this doesn't seem to be working, maybe try getting the healer to use agro drops at this time if they are not using them already. Best of luck to you guys! Any questions feel free to ask! :)

As soon as Gharj enters frenzy have the healer stop healing, if possible. Marauder will pick up the adds because of the threat generated by his self heals ;)
