The hardest thing about suffering this down time is that there is a broken game dolling out unintended extra CXP and I can't get at it!!

 

Don't expect us Europeans to get a look at this tonight. Thanks Eric for keeping us up to date. Nighty Nite to the rest of you!

Indeed. We were without power for 3 days winter before last. That was fun. Did we get a rate reduction? Newp. There was no mention of it at all. Same thing with ISP outages.

 

My ISP compensates me if it is out for 2 or more days in a billing cycle. My electric provider does not, there I am billed based on kilowatt hours used. So a three day power outage is a de facto bill reduction for me, based on me not using any electricity for those three days.

I don't doubt that. Any job where one is providing a "service" to another human being tends to mean dealing with that other person while they act superior and/or angry. I hated having to "escort" VIP's on base, total waste of time and they act all smug and snotty. I just wanted to pistol whip some of them and say, "Your in my house now" then shove them into a torpedo tube for a few hours. I never actually did it, but I really wanted to.

 

Oooooh, so not skimmer puke? Bubblehead? :D

 

Some folks just have no manners nor sense. I like to be the one who deals with CS people fairly and calmly. If I'm really in a temper I will preface it with "I know this isn't down to you, please don't take it personally" and go from there. But I never forget that there's a human on the other end who's just trying to make a living.

 

As is Eric. Who probably thinks right about now that being an accountant might've been a better choice. :D

I don't know what makes me more sad: The situation per se or the fact that Eric had to apologise for handing out a few free code-goodies. How toxic can you guys be... :mad:

Human beings are, without a doubt, the most freaky and disgusting animals on the planet.

 

Living on a farm land with cows and other cattle around, I'm not so sure. It often makes me want to move.:rak_03:

I'll take 10 Twilek Male Dancers, a few more senator rugs, the Thunderclap starship deco because I have the others, the spa, gazebo, about two dozen Massasi Lights, same amount of Zakulian chandeliers, and a new paint job on my Defender ship.

 

I want one of those spiffy gazebo thingies which I'll never see otherwise. That'd put me right over the moon.

How quickly after testing would the servers be up, granted that the test is successful?

 

Good question. The test itself will take some time (which is getting underway now). I will need to hear what happens from that before we go into the ETA of getting it live, there are still a lot of moving parts.

 

I am hoping to have more detailed information following the test on next steps and a possible ETA.

Nope. There is a difference. With power, you are paying for actual usage, or estimated usage if your provider is a crook. With your ISP you pay a monthly service fee. If you are down for more than 24 hours, you should receive compensation from the provider for that outage. Since your power was out, you had no usage, and therefore no charges to be returned.

Every time codes are released its a bad idea, the idea that people should sit constantly refreshing dev tracker to be the fastest to get them is just going to remind those people that instead of playing they are hitting dev tracker on the chance that a code will be released.

 

As for double xp, are there really that many people that are desperate to rush another character through to end game? The leveling speed is pretty unbelievable quick at the moment as it is, and you rush people through so they can avoid most of their class story, possibly all of Makeb and SOR and get into Kotfe? Are you crazy that is not the selling point you may think it is. End game has never really been the strength of ToR, sure not in the league of the class stories.

 

Now I am not saying don't do something, sadly at this point The Old Republic looks like it is in real trouble, there is not a great deal of new content, what there is often doesn't work right and I don't think a week goes by that there isn't something going wrong. And nothing seems to be getting any better, I'm not sure you could do a better job at making it very unappealing if you tried and part of me hopes you are cause at least you would be succeeding. So I hope you have something massive up your sleeves to turn things around but it isn't going to be gimmicks of a pet no one wants or double xp so you can get to 'end game' in a week and then complain you don't like being forced to group or rng or how pvp sucks and class balance is terrible.

MM2(ss) here. There are two kinds of ships in the Navy, fast boats and targets.

 

I sometimes have sufficient tact to pull they, "I know this isn't your fault" line, but sometimes my inner Submariner shows through and I explain in a calm and rational manner why the person should stop wasting my oxygen. :)

 

Accountant? Nah, he should look into something safe, like SWAT duty. At least then he can defend himself against the angry mob.

I once told a customer off, in my *****iest voice of the super*****.

I took the phone from a co-worker after hearing the shouts from the customer from across the room, and I told the customer she had no right to call us and scream and make demands, and to call again after she calmed down so we could solve her problem.

And then I hung up on her.

And noticed my boss standing behind me.

...and told the boss what had transpired, the boss said it was fine. The customer called back a few minutes later. I solved her problem, and that was that.

I may or may not have gone outside for an extra cigarette after that, and I may or may not still remember that incident some 10 years later.

 

Aaah, customer service. Suckiest job ever, but sometimes happy customers send you 6 half-kilo packs of coffee and some candy for Christmas.

 

I spent 10 years as a C/S phone rep. I have a bundle of stories all my own.

 

One such story takes place on Christmas Eve one year when a lady in california called asking when her package was going to arrive. After checking her account, the order she placed was done after the Christmas Delivery cut-off date, was done on-line rather than calling in and speaking to one of our reps, and it wasn't expedited. She would be lucky to get the package by New Years Day. Basically, there was nothing I could do, and I tried to explain this to her in the clearest way possible.

 

I tried three times.

 

Each time, she got more and more irate until she finally called me a "Dumb *****". I told her that I have a bachelor's Degree, which I worked hard to achieve, and so technically I was a "Smart *****". I then hung up on her.

 

Thankfully, no one was monitoring calls.
