Will we be able to carry over the crates we already have to boost the influence with the specialists for characters who have not started KoTFE or will they be removed entirely for some less the fair number of credits.

The ask is out there, and my guess is that they are still not dropping when running planetary heroics on the main planets before you reach 51

To be safe, I'd use them before 6.0 and save the legacy shells on an alt storage character.

Even if they are preserved in some form, it seems likely the rewards will be nerfed, both credits and legendary companion gifts, since so many aspects of 6.0 are determined to reduce the amount of credits players have or accumulate. Maybe even some of the legacy shells will be removed from Alliance crates, since they share models with 6.0 endgame sets.

Given past expansions, you never know what will change or be removed - best to play it safe generally.

They still are mission rewards from planetary heroics for characters at 70, according to reports, but they are definitely absent from planetary heroics at 75, confirmed by myself and multiple testers. I've /bugged it in game and requested it be changed here in the forums. Nothing happens to existing locked crates as far as I can tell, they still exist upon character copy. I do not know if they are still mission rewards for doing the [WEEKLY] six star fortress missions at level 75. There is only one other way to raise specialist influence, and that's with C2-N2's Comfort Enthusiast mission once per week, and no alternative of which I am aware to raise a resistance member's influence if you haven't already unlocked other SF missions. Even if there is, there is simply no rationale whatsoever for removing these as rewards. Even characters who skipped the story to go straight to Ossus still have an Alliance, which still has four Specialists.
If you think I've made a good contribution with this post, I kindly ask that you use my Refer a Friend link! Here is more information about the program.

Under PTS phase 3, Alliance crates still work as usual. Several of them are also granted for completing Specialist missions and Alerts, and those also all worked correctly for a newly minted 75 character I tried them on. I suspect the devs simply "forgot" to update the planetary heroic rewards for level 71+ characters. If 71+ characters are being deliberately excluded, then the devs are setting a precedent for surreptitiously retiring content -- a tactic of some other MMOs I don't appreciate.

One thing about Star Fortress content which they have never fixed was the loot tables. Many decos and the SF bracer shells only drop for level 65 characters. 66-70 have a different loot table which includes 66+ world gear and tier 2 refined isotope drops off the last boss. 71-75 characters may have yet a different loot table, or they might be like the planetary heroics, and get nothing but credits and experience for running them.

If a 71+ player hasn't already unlocked Star Fortresses, and they don't have enough Alliance crates laying around, they are currently locked out of SF content. Hopefully the release build of 6.0 will address the issue. I've long since given up hope that they would fix the drop tables in SF to include decos and the missing bracers.

With the removal of additional items dropping out of Command-turned-Renown crates, that leaves Alliance Crates as one of the best ways to acquire companion gifts (in fact the only one I can currently think of, short of buying them outright). For that reason alone, they should be left in as rewards for Heroics regardless of if the character is at level cap.

But that's hardly the only reason. As everyone has stated, they're actually tied in to specific game mechanics which require them: Star Fortresses and Alliance Commanders, and all the rewards and activities associated therewith. We blow through levels so quickly that gating these to a specific levels window would guarantee that people have out-leveled the content before they've completed the content.

There are also unique items that drop in Alliance Crates that can't be acquired anywhere else - the armor shells as mentioned, but decos too, and there's no reason we should lose access to these.

This would be a needless change, what harm does it do to leave them in? The crates don't drop statted gear anyway.

My best guess is they will disappear entirely from the game. Any current ones will be converted to credits (with a bad exchange rate).
To off set the difficulty of getting the NPC affection up to 20 for Star fortress, I expect they will either make it a credit or time sink. Ie, you will be able to buy the affection or give companion gifts or grind Story Star fortress and other content to get the affection up.

Remember, most of 6.0 is one big credit sink. The ones we’ve already discovered around gearing and crafting are the obvious ones. There are plenty more I’ve found on the pts and I’m sure there are many absent from it. Which is why I feel the Alliance crates will be removed (even if they still work on the pts) and they will be replaced by a credit or time sink that doesn’t involve running heroics.

Also, with the addition of grade 11 mats to war supplies, the cost of making Invasion Forces from those war supplies has gone up a lot. And since Invasion Forces are required to make Dark Projects, and Dark Projects are required to purchase Companion Compendiums, I suspect going this route for getting a companion to 50 is now cost prohibitive compared with outright purchasing Rank 5 gifts. Outright purchasing Rank 6 gifts has always been cost prohibitive.

Otherwise, rank 5 and rank 6 gifts from the Alliance and Command crates were the cheapest way to level companion influence to 50. Command crates will be gone in 6.0, leaving only Alliance crates.

Yeah it's bad enough that star fortresses are structured in a way that makes them very difficult to bring other people along for, but if crates truly went away people would be locked out of 4 great legacy bound armour sets, and the alliance influence speeders would become impossible to earn, as well as those conversations available at high influence levels to somewhat flesh out their limited characterization. If 6.0 really launches in the say it's going it'll not only be a huge problem for the fun of continuing on new content but retroactively wreck a lot of old content for the people still catching up on story.
May the force ever serve you.

It would be really nice if someone from the dev team could please clarify what will happen with the Alliance crates, as well as the levels we will be able to earn them at (if at all). I'm turning in as many of them as I can now, just in case.
