Neloth
I got some info from Damion Schubert (Principal Lead Systems Designer) about this for you! He says that the "super secret space project" is certainly not dead and is in development. Unfortunately, we're not ready to say much more than that about it. We do, though, have more space content coming in the near future, and will continue work on the "super secret space project!" Glad to hear updates on this. Personally I hope it will be more player driven space content, but sadly I really don't have any reason to believe BW will do anything resembling sandbox content
Comstrike
Glad to hear some info on this... hopefully you get it out before SWGEMU comes out with space I just hope there are more devs left at Bioare than working on SWGemu! Seriously though, I'm picking up on a better vibe with the mods engaging a bit more here. Good trend.

EcrirTwyLar
I wouldn't get too worked up about this secret space project. I doubt it will even make the space content worth playing.

I won't say they have been able to say much. But one thing I personally considered a failing with the community team, was that they left nearly everything unanswered, if only to say they heard us. Somebody is trying, and if that seems to be a marketing pitch to some, I can understand that too.

People are hyped up because of the Chris Roberts game so maybe we can know what to expect here from the TOR SSSP? Well, whatever they do it won't be on par with Star Citizen... Chris Roberts is now my new and only god. Jokes aside, that's a full game based on something that would be an addition (even if a very big one) to swtor... Kinda unfair to compare them. Still, we would really like to know something more yeah... Afterall Chris Roberts was inspired for Wing Commander and this new venture as well by Star Wars itself, so... Illyean
there is no space project, I would expect there to be some more missions and maybe some expansion of the current on rails mini game, but it wont be much. They clearly don't have the development effort to spend on anything much and have stated time and time again that the biggest thing they have been working on is Legacy. Given that is true and the laughable state of legacy, the constant delays and removal of content I cant see how they could deliver a space game that wont be just an extension of the current rails shooter. Iggster
I don't get the secrecy.. Just revealing what it is will do more good than harm. Are they worried EVE or STO will steal their idea, especially if they come out and say something like "the SPP will feature full 3D space combat similar to freelancer or galaxies". Although I love the idea of entertaining space combat in this game. I'm not holding my breath, especially since so called WARzones are skirmishes between 16 people.. Although I love the idea of entertaining space combat in this game. I'm not holding my breath, especially since so called WARzones are skirmishes between 16 people.. Because let's say they will tell you something about it. Like oh you will get non-rail space pvp combat and you will be able to board enemy frigates blah blah blah, then you will expect these things. Then it will turn out that it's not working the way they wanted or something and they will scrap the idea, then everyone will complain how "BioWare is not keeping promises again". So they are not gonna say or promise anything about it until they are sure they can do it and to avoid useless whining on forums.

If they say something, they will be acused of lieing and deceiving if they choose to change anything on the design or delay the release. Therefore we get nothing. You can thank the whinners, they kicked the devs out of the forums (like the above poster ^^). Edited December 29, 2012 by Nemmar
Vitellius
At the last live chat this came up and they mentioned it is still in production and they even played with it. That tells me all I need to know. BW, DO NOT answer this question. You're damned if you do, and you're damned if you don't. The safe bet is look for this sometime next fall. Until then, I wouldn't expect any new news.

Suzina
Just because Bioware says the "super secret space project" is in development doesn't mean it is. Look back at the guild summit in spring of 2012, or at the numerous promises from the pre-launch era. The "SSSP" is one such project discussed back in 2011! There is no iteration of the word "soon" that could possibly involve a multiple year wait when you are billed monthly. There is also no iteration of the phrase "new gear" that can refer to armor sets available in beta that were removed just before launch.

Xerodotus
You guys know this, but space was an expansion years after SWG was released. Space is not the highest priority right now, and it shouldn't be.
Darth__Carnal
I know Mr Walton isn't working there anymore but; "He warned of making promises for features in patches that would never come to fruition (or do so far down the line the promises don't matter anymore.)" http://www.gamasutra.com/php-bin/news_index.php?story=15386 So don't do it. That link is funny, no, it's down right comical. It was posted in 2007, and here you have this guy, Mr. Walton acting as if TOR shipped and was a huge success and we all left WOW to play it full time. In short, I hate when people make bold statements like Mr. Walton did in that speech before TOR even launched and now look at how many lessons he got wrong. While I can't point the finger at any one person for the fiasco that TOR turned out to be, I can say "Mr. Walton's lessons" are a clear reason why we are in this mess. While many of them sound good when you hear them, a deeper look reveals why things went so wrong.

Space is not the highest priority right now, and it shouldn't be. JTL was in full on development (and announced) before SWG even went Live, it continued development past the Live date, and it was released 16 months after SWGs Live date, If SWTOR was to match that it should have its space expansion out in ~March 2013 (as things stand from what they are saying it is more likely to be March 2014). KepavEgi
From my understanding, BioWare had no intentions of having any space content at launch. However, people were getting riled up, because they hadn't heard anything about space content. I think the rail shooter we have now is a result of EA*, seeing fans' outcries as a chance for increased profits, putting pressure on BW to have space content at launch. A rail shooter is a lot simpler than a normal flight sim. There are a lot less variables. It very well may be that what we have now was not part of BW's original plan, and it was just something that they could quickly put together in time for launch. This, "Super Secret Space Project," might be what they wanted to have in the game all along. Or maybe not, I'm just guessing based on information that I have not verified. As for me, I would like to see something comperable to SWG's JTL. Like many, I want to be taken off the rails and allowed free and full 360 degree movement. I would enjoy being allowed to idly fly around space and explore, believe it or not. *From the way everyone talks, EA seems to be the Palpatine to BioWare's Darth Vader. Please forgive me if it's not really the case. I have not done my own research on the matter. Edited February 19, 2013 by KepavEgi
