ImmortalLowlife
This is more of a rant than anything... but I've given up on doing heroic' s & fp's. During peak times my computer lags something awful. It runs fine during heavy times, but very heavy times it's not worth it. Now I've tried doing them early mornings on the weekends (my main play days) and have found ppl to be unwilling to group with me because 1. I'm dps even tho I'm geared up in mostly purple & orange gear. 2. I let em know I'm still new & this is my first mmo. (My highest leveled toon is 32) I've been immediately kicked from groups b4 when I told ppl this. I've quit 2 different guilds because of this behavior. I can remember waiting over an hour to group for the 1st fp on coursuant & got kicked within 30sec after typing "fyi I'm a new Mmo player" in the group chat. All this has done is reminded me why I'm a console gamer first & foremost. Playing solo U get more story & less drama. Overall I've really enjoyed the story in swtor. And I'll eventually get a new computer just because of this game. I enjoy it enuff that I'll invest $700-$1000 on a computer just to play. But with a wife & 4 kids real life responsibility comes first. I posted this in new player help because I'm sure I'm not the only new player dealing with this. Who knows, maybe bioware will see this & decide to give us "noobs" a dedicated server. *Drops Mic & goes back to work....
sumuji
Everyone has a rough time their first go around even if they're experienced MMORPG players. You'll run into people that have no tolerence. Just learn the basics of playing your class and get that down and you should get by ok. I wouldn't advertise the fact you're new so much unless you need things explained. I also wouldn't expect many groups to be ok with a person afking every 5 mins as you make it sound like your family is interrupting you a lot. Either you got time to do the group content or you stick to soloing, barring quick, unexpected disturbances.
Raansu
Unfortunately a lot of people have run the content so many times now that they just want to burn through, get their xp/items and be done with it. As a DPS I just wouldn't say anything and just kind of follow the crowd. You'll get it down eventually. And if people kick you, to hell with them. I tend to be pretty patient with new players cuz we were all new at one point.
Fisherlogan
I think i've been lucky when i group to do Heroics, I let them know that i'm relatively new to the game (lvl 25 commando), but i will try my best. I always get told "No problem" or "Don't worry about it." Even when i died 4 times in my first heroics, when i apologized, they said it was ok. I left because i was dragging them down, not because they wanted me to leave. As for Guilds being like that, that really sucks. Keep looking for a Guild that will help you out. I went on the Guild section on the Forums and said i was looking for a Guild to help me with the game, I got an invite to a great Guild. Good luck and don't let idiots get you down. They even know not to touch anything lol & my oldest 2 are either watching or playing Xbox, PS3, Wii or one of the other systems. But I may just do that....stop telling ppl I'm new & just run wit it. Rooff
Dont tell people you are new to MMO. DPS in flash points are to kill the weak (red) mobs first once those are dead assist the other dps to kill the standard (silver) mobs, then asist the tank with Champions (gold) or Boss (not sure how to describe that graphic kinda gold and silver star). Do a few fights first (showing the group you know the basics), then you can tell them that this is the first time running that particular Flashpoint and to give you a heads up on the important skips/boss tactics. Dont need on anything for your companion. Greed is for stuff to sell or companion gear.
Syas
Keep in mind, also, that people aren't ignoring you because you are DPS; there are just more DPS than Healers/Tanks, so often Heroic/FP Groups get their DPS spots filled quickly.

AlixMV
If people are dropping you from groups on starting planets because you admit you're a new player...well, they're ******s. Keep trying, there are nice people out there, I promise. But for the guilds doing that? That's B.S. They should know that upfront about you and be /helping/ you, not being mean about it. It may also mean, though, you need to do a better job vetting what kind of Guild you join. Make sure up front that they're willing to help each other out and newbies, and if they don't seem newbie-friendly, don't join them, simple as that. Good luck! You should see getting kicked from groups and guilds as a blessing in dusguise. Means you do not have to put up with their ignorance. Your better off alone and in peace rather than in a Guild or Group and angry. Remember that this game is yours, not theirs. Don't let others stop you from doing, or achieving what you know you can do. Guilds just want people that are dumb enough to do what they say. Don't let their ignorance make u ignorant. Your above them.

Przemo_No
OP: that is the weirdest thing I have heard here. You really had to run into some REAL ******es, as being new to the MMO does not make you worse than any of those "experienced" keyboard warriors. There are many casual people playing this game and you apparently had bed luck. This game is also my first MMO as well, (and for social aspects, the LAST one ), but since it is Star Wars, i play and enjoy it. Just look for "casual guild", there are some of them around. Heezdedjim
Stop telling people you're new, and just use group finder to get groups. The expectation level is very low for random group finder PUGs, and it's likely you will meet it at least well enough to avoid a /votekick, even if you make some mistakes. In all fairness, the people who are kicking you probably suck more at playing than you do, because they're the types who blame every fail or wipe on everyone but themselves. That said, expect to wait a long time for any group at any level as a DPS class. If you want instant groups and more love even when you stumble, just roll a tank or healer. They take some learning like any class, but then so does playing a good DPS role as well. Between the two, healer is probably an easier "hard" role for a new player, since you have fewer things to worry about and generally fewer ways to make big mistakes. And once you get any good at it, you will never lack for friends or invites. Edited April 4, 2013 by Heezdedjim
thatghost
On Shadowlands too, OP, in a great dual-faction casual guild in which I guarantee nobody will mind that you're new to MMOs and folks will help you out instead of being utter jerks. I should be on later today for a bit; I'll mail you from my mains on both sides, and even if you don't want a guild invite you can shout at me for help anytime (edit: make that tomorrow/Friday morning that I'll next be on, domestic situation has arisen as is typical during spring break ) Edited April 4, 2013 by thatghost
