When I tried to start the PTS client, the loading process got stuck right after switching to full screen, while the mouse cursor still had the windows looks. Turned out my extensive Nvidia Inspector tweaks didn't work so well with the client's default graphics settings.

 

If this happens to you, press windows+R and enter %Appdata%\..\local\swtor

This will open the windows explorer in SWTOR's application data folder.

 

There should be a "swtor" and a "publictest" folder, and within each a "settings" folder with various ini files, most of them the UI settings and friend list comments for all characters you ever created. There is also a file named "client_settings.ini" which is exactly what it says.

 

Now right-click and copy your your "client_settings.ini" from swtor/settings to publictest/settings and the PTS client should work just like the live client.

Can confirm. Many have had this problem and this is the appropriate solution.

Can confirm this fix too. Thank you op! Prior to the fix it would dump me out to desktop at the loading screen with no way to tab back into the game, and my resolution would be 800 x 600 until I closed the client completely. This fix fixed all of that.
