This may be a dumb lore question but..

If jedi's don't generally have sex and procreate, why doesnt the line of appropriate force sensitives die out for the jedi order?

The sith don't have that same restriction so you would think that they would vastly outnumber the jedi.

Or does being force sensitive have nothing to do with genetics? Do force sensitives generally pass their force sensitiveness to their offspring or not? Do non-force sensitive parents give birth to force sensitive children?

Force Sensitivity is and isn't related to genetics. Yes, Force Sensitives often have a high likelyhood of Force Sensitive Children, but, even Force Sensitives can have a child who isn't (See Satele Shan's son).

Oh, when it comes to the Sith, it's a HUGE shame if you have a Non-sensitive child and you're a Sith, these children are often hidden, or killed.

Force Sensitivity can also randomly pop up in a child who has non-sensitive parents.

I'm pretty sure that the lore is kinda blurred here. If you are going by the "we have microscopic being in us that make the force" Then yes genetics have some play in it, but if you like the "The force is mysterious power that some people control more then others and connects all life forms" then it is more of training plus having the natural ability to use the force. In both cases I think every living being has the potential to use the force or at least commune with it but requires training and of course a strong connection to it, whether natural ability or a bunch of living force generators.

Correction there. Never have the films claimed that the medichlorians MAKE the Force. Nor are they part of the Force.

That is the one thing people misunderstand about that little snippet. They allow you to sense the Force. In essense, its like the Force is a magnetic field and the medichlorians are iron within your body. The more iron you have, the more you feel the magnetic field.

Why do the Jedi never die out? Simple. Genetics. If you have two mildly force sensitive people then it is possible the child will inherant both the force sensitive genes from both parents. Essentially, they will have double that of either parent. This is similar to the way that bi-racial children can be darker skinned than their parents.

Then of course you have the concept of dorment genes where both parents are carries but the gene isn't active, but turns on for the child.

Force sensitivity is inherited, but the Force itself has nothing to do with genetics. It is still a mystical energy field that exists within all things and grows within living beings.

Sadly no one will pay this any mind...though seeing as both Obi-Wan and Yoda said in the first two movies.

"It surrounds us, penetrates us, and binds the galaxy together."

Something had to be inside of people.

It does seem to be genetic (whenever a force sensitive has children in lore, they tend to also be force sensitive). However, force sensitivity seems to also randomly appear in children of non force sensitives.

As the others say, it is genetic. You need to be "Force sensitive" and have a strong connect to the Force but pretty much anyone may be born Force sensitive by chance, it is just far more common to see Force Sensitive children born from Force Sensitive parents.

There are two things at play here:

If you are Sith, anyone who is found to be force sensitive will be sent to the Sith academy where most die. So even though Sith lords are free to have children, many will fail their training and thus not pass on their genes.

Jedi let force sensitive people choose to train as a Jedi, so many force sensitive people persist in the community and have offspring that can be recruited by the Jedi.

However, if this is really the way it works and force ability is genetic, you would expect over generations that the Sith would become more powerful (much greater selection pressure to be powerful in the force).

The balancing factor I believe is the large number of Jedi who have secret lovers and offspring.
