"Crafting Conundrum" or "Why the Devs Hate Willpower Tanks"

So, for those that know me, I can be a little obsessive compulsive when it comes to crafting. I like to get every viable RE schematic out there only skipping those that appear to be worthless in the grand scheme of things. 3.0 gave us a bevy of new crafting schematics that end up with their 186 purples upon completion. So, I have what I call the 11 priority schematics for both implants and earpieces. Basically, priority schematics to me are the purple ones that have 4 stats that are all needed by the profession.

Below please see my priority stat list for implants and earpieces. So, mad crafter, why so sad? Well, inquisitive customer, it’s because you will note that allllll the professions have their priority schematic EXCEPT the Willpower Tank. What?!?! What is going on?!? Yes, every other tank has a 4 stat earpiece and implant (not to mention every DPS and healer too). For Aim and Strength tanks they have: Main Stat 222, Endurance 231, Shield 102, and Defense 111. Willpower, however, will have 79 surge or accuracy interjecting its ugly head into their stats reducing either defense and/or absorb).

Why o’ why is the harmony of crafting disrupted by this ugly oddity?!? Is this is a mistake or oversight on the part of the developers? Is this on purpose? If so, why force the willpower tank to have surge or accuracy at the expense of defense stats? Are the willpower tanks so overpowered that they needed this for balance? I suspect that this is simply an oversight and it should/could be corrected.

On another note entirely, what the holy heck is up with the Anodyne Resolve System MK-1 schematics?!! There are two with the same name but one can be RE’d into greatness and the other, well, is substandard and useless? I think that one is a total mistake and should be removed completely…but that, perhaps, is a topic for another post?!?

I was just coming here to post that Bioware messed up and added surge instead of shield to the Willpower tank schematics for implants and ears but you did it in many more words. So, thank you for pointing that out and I agree. This should be fixed. Its kind of ridiculous that we can't craft things for Willpower tanks.

I looks like they toned them down compared to the 2.0 versions. Those use to have more points in mitigation than everything up to 180 token gear.

These fit somewhere between the new 186 and 192 vendor gear. They have 213 points in mitigation while the 186 gear has 205 and the 192 gear has 225. The only other difference is they have more main stat and less endurance than the vendor gear.

They don't even come close to the 192 token gear which has about 50 more points in mitigation.

  • 3 weeks later...

Since it's not in the patch notes for 3.1, it seems there's not likely to be a change to this any time soon.

Simplest solution for a Shadow / Assassin tank is to use Basic Comms to purchase the Yavin implants / earpieces.

Simplest solution for a Cybertech / Biochem is to ignore the willpower tank gear, and instead focus on the many many other implants / earpieces that have good stats.

Being of the same mindset (get all the "good"/4-stat schematics), has anyone else noticed the

Endowment Anodyne Resolve System MK-1 174E, 138W, 79CR, 102SR

at 493 stat total is 173 points lower than all the rest (and what that total is FWIW)?

I've been running a Lightning Sorc with those and didn't even notice until I started comparing my list with yours.
