How would Palpatine fare versus Superman?

Hope Palpatine can find some kryptonite?

Iffy. On one hand Superman has unrivaled strength and speed. He'd squash Sidious before he could blink. On the other hand Superman in the comics is vulnerable to magic and telekinetic abilities. The real question is.. does the force count as Magic? If so it might not be one sided as one would seem. Withces, warlocks, and sorcerers who have no combat abilities have proven to be a major problem for Supes.

Av. Superman vs Movie Sidious = Superman.

Av. Superman vs EU Sidious = Sidious.

End. Superman vs Movie Sidious = Superman.

End. Superman vs EU Sidious = Superman.

Av. Superman = Superman from the Justice League Animated TV show, which many consider to be a good estimation of an average Superman.

End. Superman = End Game Superman, the last Superman seen timeline wise.

Sidious is in a way very similar to Lex Luthor, but with powers of his own and with the EU Sidious's immortality he could easily spend long enough fighting Superman to finally work out how to defeat.

End. Superman and EU Sidious are both immortal, but Superman is immortal within his own indestructible body, whilst Sidous requires mortal/destructible bodies so Superman would just outlast EU Sidious (and the rest of the galaxy). At the End of time he'd be the only thing left.

Supes from the animated series is not an "Average" superman, that's a Weaker version of Supes. One who could still throw things into space, zip across a city in seconds, and has fought Doomsday inside of an erupting volcano. Even TAS Superman blitzes Palps into paste.

Superman could pick up EU Sidious and just throw him into space, burry him in the ground, whatever. It's STILL no contest. The weakest Superman can beat any Sidious with his pinky.

But Superman could never defeat EU SIdious permanently, he would just spirit transfer to another body over and over again infinitely.

Given that he is a genius more less equal to Lex Luthor (and Lex has come close to killing Sups lots of time) and has infinite chances at Superman, all he has to do is get lucky once and he wins (and Superman can never win, unless he kills everyone in existence).

As much as I hate to say it, Superman would stomp Sid into the ground with both hands behind his back, just for fun. Does Sid even have mind control capabilities, and on the scale of Max Lord??? So far, only he and maybe one or two others have been able to mind**** Supes to the point of being able to either beat him or control him.

If Sid can't do the ol' Mind control gig on Supes, he's toast. According to "canon", The Force isn't magic. So there goes Sid's main advantage right there.

Actually, I'd put Sid, intelligence wise, WAY above Luthor. Luthor is basically the reincarnation of Machiavelli as far as the deviousness goes. Sid takes both Luthor AND Machiavelli to school.

That said, if he has no leverage over Superman that he can use, he's done. Over with. Most of the time, Luthor had something to hang over Supes' head during their scraps.

Sid doesn't even compare to Luthor in intelligence. Let me put it this way; What did Sidious himself Create? I mean technology, weapons, resources, etc etc. The answer to that is; None. Sid took over the network from Plagueis that Darth Bane started a thousand years earlier. Luthor is actually a genius and has created technology and built his own company. He isn't just a criminal mastermind, but an astute businessman as well.

There's also a big difference between the two. The Justice League and co know Luthor is bad news and has done wrong. But they can't touch him. Luthor has ways of escaping prosecution legally, so they can't do anything about him. Once Sid was exposed though, everyone knew who to gun for, and that's why Sid kept himself as far away from anyone who could do him harm as possible.

A couple fair points, there. But one thing definitely separates the two. Luthor, for being a megalomaniac, is not truly evil on the scale that Sid is. Deep down, Lex has the welfare of Earth first, and believes that Earth can only prosper with him in charge. He has sociopathic tendencies as far as using people with no thought as to their welfare, but he never hatched a scheme as grand as Sid's. He never caused a fake war just to become Emperor of Earth. Yeah, some of the plan MIGHT have been Plageus', but give credit where credit is due. Sid/Pally went all out to make sure his powerbase was completely secure before he "Reformed" the Galactic Republic as the Galactic Empire.

Luthor is intelligent. He is an inventor and as you said, very astute businessman. However, he isn't the real "evil genius" that Sid is. Different levels of intelligence there. Sid is more of a grand scale schemer. Luthor NEVER made sure his powerbase was secure when he tried to take over.

With the exception of a few Jedi who escaped Order 66, Palpatine was about 99.9% secure when he declared the State of Imperium. He had all his bases covered.

Well look what Luthor has to be up against. Sid only ever dealt with people who had the same power set. Luthor, even assuming he tries to take over the world, has to come up with the means of stopping EVERY super-powered being on the planet. When you live in a universe where everyone and their grandmother has superpowers, and You don't, then it's less about conquering the world as it is about getting rid of all the guys who could destroy it with an arm-wrestling match.

The real difference is when Sid failed, he failed HARD. Even with his Clones, Sid could never regain what he'd lost. With Luthor, even if he loses a gambit, it will still Help him down the road. Because he has either learned something from the events that transpired, or the entire ordeal had been orchestrated simply to mess with the heroes rather than eliminate them.

I think one of the more known events with Luthor that people would have seen is from the Justice League animated series. It was after Luthor was pardoned and began doing "good" things, however Superman was constantly suspicious of him because of Cadmus, and at each event hosted by Luthor, Superman was lead to believe some catastrophe had been set up by Luthor in some revenge scheme, and everything leading up to them had been designed to infuriate Superman. At the end of it, Superman ended up wrecking a city in a fight with Captain Marvel, only to discover there had been no threat and gifts to the community were all legitimate.

That entire event had been orchestrated by Luthor to make Superman look bad and to get the people to distrust him and the Justice League, and in doing so the Government gave more support to Project Cadmus, which in turn helps Luthor in his future plots. All of it designed to make Superman look like the villain. And it worked.

You missed that "The Prince" was written as satire, didn't you?

Just thought I would toss this out there.

I tend to agree with the article to an extent. A Sith Lord's force choke ability or Force Lightning would likely be problematic for Superman and Palpatine would likely use treachery to betray Superman and strike him while he was unaware.

My vote is for Palpatine.

prior to the prequels you could count the force as magic. Now after the prequels you can't since they gave a scientific explanation for it.

The Force can still be considered as magic, they didn't give any scientific explanation for The Force. They just gave an explanation, as to how one communicates with it thats all.

Well, if that's the case, and The Force CAN be considered magic/sorcery, then Palpatine FRIES Superman in record time.

So, here is where it gets iffy.

If the Force is NOT Magic: Supes wins.

If the Force IS Magic: Pally wins.

Sidious would win because he would hold hostage 100 billion souls unless superman gave up his life ;)

2 diffrent universes and i see this crap all the time the force is more realistic then super heros u say super man can go faster then light ect jedi and sith can see the future thats right they can see things befoure they happen

secondly super man requires suns of the planets he fights on to be a certian tone so if he fights on a sun that weekens him hes toast

so my battle gos like this super man gos to do his super speed pal puts up a force wall super man gos splat pal force chokes then shocks his non force user body into dust cos he picked a dead solar system to fight in and super man wernt so super any more

and what he said above after all super man aint no jedi he will give him self in this postion to save people cos hes a sucker
