Star Fortress Questions -

Recommended Posts

My fellow gamers,

I have just returned to this game I have loved / hated, campaigned for, recruited for and disparaged. (Hold the applause until the end, please) And I looked Iokath, looks interesting, but ran back to warm up in my beloved heroic star fortress fights. I know better than to try alone, no matter how well equipped or go there without a well versed partner. I walked through the mechanics and expected loots. We jumped in. … and survived … And .. what happened?

Did it get watered down? Did someone take the loots out? Is there a replacement weekly that tough, interesting and pays well? (Don’t talk to me of PVP, I suck at it. Or rather, the other players in realm are REALLY good.) It was cool, totally surviving the run on her first time, but what the heck? :rak_02:

Always a pleasure, :)

Bob

Looking to do the Star Fortresses myself, but I remember on the second run through, I would almost always get my butt handed to me, no matter what my gear or companion influence was. Even teamed up with another player and we still got beat.

Tried to do one recently and the first time through was pretty easy. However, I'm not sure how to go through again in order to destroy the Star Fortress. How do I pick this up as I kind of feel like an idiot now. Trying to do this with my Jedi Sage.

The mission will say to do the [Heroic] version, but you need to talk to the NPC in front of the door on Odessen, and choose *[Veteran]*

For some time now the loot has been messed up in the veteran mode star fortresses, with the Paladins no longer dropping anything. Additionally, the Exarch's drops have been changed and they no longer drop anything except for the CXP consumable and credits (for level 70s... not sure what they drop for sub-70s).

  • 2 weeks later...

Attempted the Veteran Star Fortress over Alderaan again, and once again, got my butt kicked by the Praetorian Droid on the Skytrooper Production Floor.

Jedi Sage; level 70; gear rank: 232; companion: Qyzen Fess at influence level 21; Alliance Specialists influence rank at 10. Can't recall the other specs right now but is there anything else I should be doing in order to complete this solo?

Assuming you haven't got any pieces of tank gear floating around (Absorb, Defense, Shield stats are tank stats and non-tank characters like any spec of Sage can't benefit from them), you look strong enough. Make sure you click the blue glowy thing near the entrance for some sort of boost. Remember to resummon your companion after riding the lift.

The next advice is for Lightning Sorc == Telekinesis Sage, but expressed in Sorc terms. It's general tough-fight advice that's not particularly tuned for this fight - I've only done Alderaan on a Gunnery Commando, and that was before 5.0 dropped - except for a couple of things. If you can get it to work, the Disciplines Calculator on dulfy.net is a good resource for finding the equivalent abilities for TK Sage because the ability names I give below will be Lightning/Sorc/Inquisitor ability names.

* The first exception: The Praetorian has a big knock-back. Make sure you don't get knocked over an edge into a hole.

* The second exception: He summons adds (Skytroopers, duh). Squish them in priority using your ranged abilities.

* Use your bubbles as needed to protect yourself. Be aware that one of them is also a reserve stunbreaker and can be cast while stunned.

* Affliction is a DoT debuff, but it can be maintained indefinitely through judicious use of Chain Lightning, and it causes Thundering Blast to *always* score a critical hit.

* In the "K" panel Utilities section, I use Sith Defiance to improve damage resistance, Empty Body to improve received healing, Conspiring Force to slow foes that I have put Affliction on, Lightning Barrier to make my bubbles damage foes that damage me, Shapeless Spirit to reduce AoE damage received while stunned, Backlash to make my bubble flash on exit to blind foes for 3 seconds, Force Mobility to enable use of some specific abilities while moving, including Thundering Blast, and Corrupted Barrier to get a small rate of regeneration while my bubbles are up.

* The rotation should include Thundering Blast whenever it is available, Chain Lightning from time to time to reset the timer on Affliction, Lightning Bolt to fill, and other abilities as you see fit.

By a curious coincidence, my Lightning Sorc is also level 70 with 232 gear, so I'll give it a go to see what happens.

One way to make this fight easy cheesy is to stand in the corner, to the left of the large cargo crate, which is to the left of the lift that descends to the Skytrooper Production floor, where the adds can't see you. Fight the first group of Skytrooper droids that spawn near the lift so you don't agro the Praetorian droid too soon (you can fight the first wave in the same corner). Once the first wave is down put your comp on passive, move into the corner and use a long range attack to get the Praetorian's attention. If you have found Bey'wan Aygo's turret place it directly in the corner that is blocked from view by the Skytrooper adds. If not stand in that corner yourself. If you have the turret, then the Praetorian will attack it first. Place yourself behind the Praetorian so when it does its knockback (there's a circle on the ground to indicate) you can move behind the cargo container so you don't get hit by it. If no turret then standing in that corner keeps you from getting tossed around. Remember to take your comp off of passive when the Praetorian comes over, otherwise it's likely to be a short fight.

The blue glowy thing is the "Star Fortress Central Network Access Terminal". It's in the room where you enter the Star Fortress and drop down through a floor hole to get there.

EDIT: I'm commenting as I go, so this will be brief posts, sorry.

Addendum: Don't forget to resummon your companion after *every* GDMF lift. Every single one.

One trick I've found to get around this is to send my comp to sell junk. As soon as they are gone click the lift controls and they'll be back at your side once you zone-in on the other side (if you have the Legacy of Leadership II legacy unlock, that is). If no trash then dismiss them so you'll have the empty portrait to click on to resummon them without having to go into the Companions & Contacts menu and scroll through 50 non-alpha sorted comps to find the one you want.

Right. The Praetorian is down. Unless you have weird 232 gear, it's a question of technique.

Caveat: I cheated by using an Advanced Polybiotic Versatile Stim, requires level 61, Item Roll level 102. :)

And a rank 41 Lana.

And now, if you'll excuse me, I'm going to continue to see if I can take down the Exarch.

Thanks for all the advice! I don't know when I'll attempt this again but I'll make sure to do everything you guys suggested.

Let me know how that goes as my Sorc is at about the same level.

I'm rather ashamed to have to admit that I need to improve my own technique and/or my gear. I'm stuck at the last one of the ring rooms.

She stomped the Praetorian into scrap metal, as noted above, and then got roflstomped by the Exarch in the final ring room. :(:(

This is my
of the walktrhough, however, I didn have a rank 50 comp (which is not hard to get these days) and 248 gear.

Nevertheless I can make a video of a Sage in 230 gear with rank 1 comp if it helps.

That would be very helpful as I don't have any companions who are level 50, although like you said, it's not that hard to do these days. One thing I do have to do next time I play my Sage is see what I've chosen for Combat Proficiencies and see what my specs are at as far as Mastery, Critical, and everything else goes.

Remember also that the adds the Praetorian Droid summons during the fight can be knocked off the platform too, and are mezzable, so you could take the containment* utility and whirlwind three of the four at once, or at least the ones you don’t knock off the platform.

(* I may have the name of the utility wrong)

I'm planning to try it on a Vigilance Guardian. She has 248 gold gloves, belt, pants and boots, rest of the gear is 240 purples, 242 golds and 246 purples. Lightsaber has a 246 hilt and 248 mod and enhancement. ZO-0m companion at level 50 influence (I never brought that companion up in influence before, decided to try it for variety).

Will be trying Voss first. Take it slow and easy, bring a stim and some medpacs. Crossing my fingers. I'll let you know how it goes once I make the attempt.

With respect, I'd suggest that you may find Voss harder than Alderaan because the Voss Exarch has a strong self-heal.

Then again, back in 4.0 I *started* with Voss, at a point where I knew basically *nothing* about how it would pan out, and I beat it first try. If the gear you list is correctly set up for Vigilance (no tank pieces with Absorb or Defense or Shield), you should be OK from that standpoint.

Critical 845, Alacrity 615, Power 3712. If I need to add some augments, I will.

EDIT: My earpiece is still 236. Ouch. I'll have to see if I can spare a few UA's to upgrade it to 242. I don't like doing that because I'm hoarding them for 5.10 and I'm still very low. If necessary I'll wait until 5.10.

Here you

. It took me a few moments to adjust, havent played TK for ages. It was really a drag cause it took long to kill stuff. I just bought the 230 stuff for Command tokens so that i have 111% accuracy, didnt bother with any stats. I had no augments and used Vette at Rank 1.

I did use Heroic moment at bosses and Unity cause it made it a bit easier. The key here are also the Utilities, you need to take the damage reduction on Threat Drop and increased heal and availability of Force Mend (big selfheal).
