I have found that laying any floor covering near the Manaan elevator causes it to malfunction. What happens?

Using the elevator neither takes you to the garden nor underground. It simply stays on the ground floor. Removing floor coverings fixed it. I think the interplay between the elevator and decorating hooks needs some tuning. Thank you.
