Need help with HM Bonetrasher

Recommended Posts

Hey guys!

Been trying HM bonethrasher for 22 wipes now and have tried close to everything. The swipe is killing us.

Strats:

the person targeted runs through the legs while everyone else sits on his butt

The group runs though his legs while everyone else sits on his butt

the person targeted kites him and avoids the swipe

nothing :(

Our DPS is fine, we're all very well geared, just getting owned by that swipe. any help points?

On the run though his leg tries we seemed to not be able to run though in a timely manner each time because of the ~2 second vent lag.

Thank you for your time.

if he targets you, stand still...everyone else moves to avoid swipe.

So what does melee do? stand in a triangle/circle around him.

Actually this fight is best if u have zero melee LOL. Everyone just stands at their spots and DPS him down.

Basically the key to this fight is to ignore all of the mechanics, and bring a completely jacked up raid comp. Have your tanks go dps, have everyone just stand in a spot and dps him, and have your healers heal through swipes. This fight is absolutely retarded and really requires no coordination or thought at all, just good healers. If you're having trouble healing it go 3 healers and 5 dps. One shot the adds he eats, knock off the tiger adds.

A couple other things to try that have worked for us on nightmare:

1) I (being the tank) press Alt+t every time he changes target (the default keybind to assist your current target). As soon as I see who bonethrasher is currently attacking, I toss a guard on them, and call their name out on vent.

2) The person who is being attacked stays in front of the boss (obviously), and everyone else gets behind. Once a new name is called out, we just switch around to make sure nobody is in front of the boss other than his target.

3)There is a bug where BT will pick a new target right before a swipe, turn around, but still swipe his previous target, resulting in a swipe damaging everyone behind him. You'll have to just get a feel for the fight to work around this, it takes some time.

4) I know you said DPS isn't a problem, but we've had more attempts go to **** when the manta cats come out than any other time cause it gets a little hectic. We generally CC the south one, kill the North one, and leave the South one CC'd for the rest of the fight.

5) This probably isn't an option for most people, but running with two sorcerer healers makes the fight SOOOOO much easier. Being able to shield everyone takes a lot of the deadly out of the swipes.

6) Don't get discouraged. It sucks how buggy the fight is, and how RNG it is. For some reason, BT can randomly crit with a swipe, and it will 1 shot anyone in front of him no matter what. If you want him dead, you just have to put a few attempts in to it, and not get discouraged/pissed off.

Hope that helped! Lemme know when you get him :)

Some key things to think about:

1. The person being targeted must always be called out on ts or vent etc, so people know where to stand (melee BEHIND him), who to heal etc.

2. The person being targeted STOP MOVING and TAKE THE DAMAGE. sure cleave hits pretty hard but its nothing the healers cant fix in a few seconds. Dont try to kite him around it will add to the chaos, just stand still and let the healers do their job.

3. Never ever ever try to avoid a cleave by running under him, you will be more likely to kill your other melees than you are avoiding the damage.

4. Never let him eat a pig, just kill them when they spawn, takes roughly 0.000012 seconds to kill them.

5. When he smashes you to the ground you will get a massive debuff, a cleve WILL KILL YOU when you have this debuff, however he will switch target after the ground smash so make sure the next target keeps him well away from the one with the debuff.

6. The adds, a number of ways to deal with them, you can CC them but i dont recommend it, the way we did it was have the tank (who is otherwise kinda useless in the fight) taunt them and just hold them for the rest of the fight, alternatively try to bring them close to the boss for some aoe. You can kill them as well but will be a bit chaotic with BT running around as well.

These are the most important thing i can think about and by following them we dont have any problems with this encounter. :) (anymore)

We tried him several attampts like on normal - hit and run, but we engaged the enrage (melee unfreidnly, like said) and there still was a lot of damage from the cleave. The conclusion was to stand still and do maximal damage.

We decided to hold him in the middle. The raid positions in a circle around him (not to close, not to far away). Thus the boss does little motion and everyone could dps. No one will be kicked off of the ledge and the cleave always hits someone, but that is absolutely not a problem. He does not cleave all the time and healers can better aoe heal. Melees still can run behind him if they are not the target.

It works for us, but the hit and run strategy might fit better for others.

We've got a good number of melees ourselfes in the setup (Jugg, 2 Powertechs, Op-Agent or Marauder), 4 melees at least everytime. Both healers und our Sniper and me are in the outside ring (north, west, east, south) and we never move once the rancor targets us. The melees not targeted move away.

Once the adds are coming, the tank takes them "into the boss" and we aoe them away so the rancor still takes dmg.
