Stealth broken / some hidden mechanic?

I currently started playing as a Jedi Shadow, Kinetic Combat specialization. I keep having random issues with stealth (filed a bug about it too, but also wanted to ask here, maybe I'm doing something wrong).

The problem is that stealth keeps breaking at random points of time. Some of the things that usually break stealth for me:

- Activating rocket boost 1-2 seconds before reaching an enemy mob

- Unsheathing weapon (default is "Z" key)

The most interesting thing is that enemy aggression focuses immediately on my companion when this happens, so maybe something is wrong with having a companion while in stealth. Sometimes stealth animation still persists on me and / or companion, but enemies see & attack me. Just today, I was standing in a group of Sand People in stealth (Tattooine heroic), went afk for 30 seconds, and when I came back, I was in combat, stealth broken.

Same issue happens with the "Force Cloak" skill -- sometimes stealth is immediately broken; other times one enemy from the mob stays aggroed even when I move far away from them (the red dot indicating an aggressive enemy still persists on the mini-map).

Has anyone had similar issues with stealth? Maybe I'm doing something wrong (like maybe I shouldn't have a companion along when using stealth)? Any advice is much appreciated since this is really annoying :(

No one? I keep getting stealth breaks at the most crucial moments. For example, I was doing a black hole run and activated Force Speed (with my companion present, but it should've been ok, it's not an "aggressive" skill) to run past a group of two droids (the silver ones - hypermatter assault droids) and two Torvix corona torches. They immediately started attacking my companion (but I was still in stealth animation). Then I switched out of stealth using force cloak, however, one of the droid still was attacking my companion. I moved away, hoping to ditch the droid, however, I got spotted after passing three mobs (that spotting was legit - one of the droids that spotted me had stealth detection - it was a Hypermatter Escort Droid). Then, while I started fighting the mob that spotted me, the droid from the first encounter caught up to my companion, and what's more - he dragged with him every mob I passed while running away in stealth.

Seriously, either I do something wrong, or the skill doesn't work properly. Or there is some stealth detection factor for every enemy and I don't know about it. Anyone, please, shed some light on this!

Are you using the Mind Over Matter utility? That will cause force speed to aggro mobs. Also if you or your companion get hit with a dot, it will keep you both aggroed until the dot falls off. And as good as stealth is, if an enemy stands or walks right on top of you or your companion's character model or super super close, there's still a decent chance it will cause aggro. If it's something else other than these reasons, then I'm stumped.

You presumably use Mind Over Matter utility (as the poster before me already pointed out), which puts a slow on the enemies whenever you activate force speed - and this aggros them. Also, whenever you vanish, put your companion on passive. If an attack is still in animation during the vanish, and the hit detects AFTER the effect takes place, you are back in the fight. No, I don't use Mind Over Matter (avenging grip + one with shadow instead), however, I never thought about DoT preventing from entering stealth, have to check it out.

Thanks for all the advice in the thread! It still looks as if stealth isn't reliable, since even enemies without special equipment could notice you if you come close, which really contradicts the Shadow Stride skill, for example, where you can close in on the enemy without breaking stealth.

I don't have any problem with stealth whatsoever. I can walk through the face of mobs and they don't notice me, companion or not. Are you by chance playing KotFE or KotET? There are a lot of fights that are forced on you, stealth won't change anything about that.

  • 3 weeks later...

Realize this is a bit later from when this thread was originally made. Companions actually have a lower "stealth level" than you do, or other classes in some cases.

Stealth says "Enters stealth mode, increasing your stealth level by 15 and making you difficult to detect." These 15 levels were rolled into stealth when that used to be an actual ability that served other purposes both in and out of stealth. Only problem being, I don't think these extra 15 levels are awarded to other players/NPC characters. Just like in warzones how it's easier to find a jugg stealthed by an operative than finding the actual operative, companions are easier to be seen than the actual player in terms of the NPC enemy's view. At least this is what I think and seem to triggers every once in awhile.

Stealth is a little broken it random reason i say that is for instance in pvp you can be 25m away from a merc or a mara or any other class and randomly the person will target you and open fire. Even thorough your 25m away. It only happens 4% out of 100%. It only Been that way since 5.0 when they reworked stealth to take the added stealth increase away.
