A little insight on why some incredibly minor fixes are going in before major ones.

I just wanted to shed a little light on something for all those that seem perplexed as to why some trivial fixes are going into the patches before some of the bigger issues are being worked out.

I work at a game developer and sometimes an engineer or gameplay programmer will notice an issue, know exactly what the problem is, and quickly fix the one line of code causing the issue. This can take as little as 60 seconds. They usually go ahead and do this because of the speed and low risk factor involved rather than waiting to fix it until other longer fixes are done. It doesn't necessarily mean that they're prioritizing those little things over the bigger ones.

Additionally there are most certainly different groups inside the Dev-Team who work on different thinks.

If they have some intern writing down baby names, so what?

They are working on it. And nobody wants to have a quick fix which will break the game at an other point.

We need to be patient. If, after a month, there is no progress visible on the major issues, then we can begin to complain.

We dont care, more than a few of those major bugs were in beta for MONTHS and are NOT NEW.

We dont want excuses, we want fixes. This is not a single player game where a company gets to take months to fix bugs that is making their game partially unplayable, this is an MMORPG and there should be a very large amount of programmers working on the issues.

NOT ONE SINGLE PERSON SHOULD BE WORKING ON FIXING BEING ABLE TO EMOTE ON A MOUNT WHEN SOME PEOPLE CANNOT CONTINUE THEIR CLASS STORYLINE OR COMPANION QUESTLINE.

NOT ONE PERSON SHOULD BE WORKING ON FIXING A TITLE LIKE DARTH WHEN NOT ONE SINGLE PERSON PLAYING THIS GAME CAN /FOLLOW FOR MORE THAN 6 SECONDS.

Prioritizing also means understanding that some things should not be on the damn list until the important things NO LONGER ARE. Yes I am pissed as any sane paying customer should be, Bioware is not even bothering to tell us that they even KNOW about most issues being complained about let alone giving us an ETA on when they may be fixed, if at all.

Thank god you work at a game developer. Can you please shed some light on this subject for me?

Why are there major bugs still in this game that were reported months ago in the beta? And why did Bioware release this game and take our money without fixing those huge bugs that were reported months before release by beta testers?

let me introduce you to the concept of "quick cash grab":

sell as many boxes as you can right outta the door, then run with the money before people readies the pitchforks

They have low level people do the inconsequential stuff (like the darth title) while the higher ups work on the major bugs. Harder stuff takes a longer time to finish, so you see minor stuff being fixed in the small patches first simply because they didn't take as long.

If you had every single developer work on only the big stuff, then the amount of changes each patch would bring would be small, and we wouldn't get as many patches. This would give the impression that Bioware wasn't doing anything to fix the game at all.

Because minor fixes take minor work.

Major fixes take major work.

As well as different groups working on different bugs.

So if it takes them 3 weeks to fix minor bugs how long will it take them to fix major ones? 1 month? 2 months? If it's going to fix them months to fix major bugs THAT WERE REPORTED BACK IN THE BETA MONTHS BEFORE RELEASE why didn't they just delay the game a month or two to fix those unplayable bugs so that when the consumer spends 60+ dollar on the game and 15+ a month they like to enjoy there game without major gamebreaking bugs that have been reported months ago.

Seeing as how they have yet to acknowledge many major bugs that have yet to be fixed even though they were reported months ago back in the beta it feels like they aren't doing anything to fix the game right now.

Uh oh. We have an efficiency expert here to rain wisdom down upon us.

Darth bug kinda should be a priority fix...it just shows my life bar, no name or guild tag. I can see this being abused in PvP perhaps.

As to other bugs, it amuses me that many these issues that are being brought up were reported repeatedly by 100s, if not 1000s of players well before launch yet never addessed....

Try actually doing some programming work.

An issue with something like the Kira bug requires going over every line of code it touches, 2 people going over the code does the work twice as fast by splitting the workload.

Whoever was working on fixing the darth title could have been working with another team to fix a more important issue.

There are too many major issues to have anyone working on something that is a vanity and there shouldnt be any teams working on emotes right now, put their manhours to GOOD use until the major issues are fixed THEN work on the vanities.

No more excuses.

They could have done this. Some people would prefer that it work that way. But the reality of it is that you and a whole lot of other people (a lot more than are currently upset about the bugs) would be pissed off that the game was delayed, the company would lose a lot of money, and nobody would be happy.

I know for example the BH class quest issue is getting fixed.

Why do you think that there are people "working" on these minor issues? Do you think there are teams of people sitting down and spending any real time fixing these tiny bugs at the expense of the larger ones? Why would they do that?

You really don't know how to listen to reason and think Logically do you?

They don't have 1 person looking at major bugs. They have whole teams.

however, do you want some random college intern from UT-Austin attempting to fix your framerate issues? I don't think so. They assign the interns and the newbloods the easy fixes. The fixes that don't take long while the people who know what they're doing with the code work on the big heavy ones. There's no telling how long something can be broken. it took blizzard 7 years to get pathing on Warrior Charge completely correct. It took all of Cataclysm to fix Death Knight Pets. Even Bizzard lets things through with gamebreaking bugs. This isn't something new and unless you are new to MMOs and expect perfection everytime (and honestly you do seem entitled) then there's no reason you should be DEMANDING bio drop the small fixes and work on the large ones only. They know what they are doing with their game.

Because then you would have an even larger angry customer base who just wanted to play the game. Most MMOs drop in a completely abysmal state. I know WoW did. This one is incredibly polished compared to launches past. Not only that but there's no way to tell how things will handle once you switch to your live client and your live servers. There have been some pretty interesting bugs pop up in MMOs I've played that didn't pop up on PTR.

EDIT:

imo most of the high level developers have probably been on holiday post launch with the front line troops holding the fort. I'm waiting until mid January to make any judgements.

QFT

also grammar fail.

some of you must realize that fixing a major bug is not alwasy that simple. First, what could seem like an easy fix actually causes other bugs. Players do not alwasy report enough or the required information concerning a bug so they devs have to spend time just trying to workout what the actual bug is. Here is an example some people have been screaming that when they turned to the left their FPS dropped down to 5. Sounds simpel but the question then becomes where does this happen is it in all the time or only in a one place in one zone or all of the places in that zone. Does it happen to everyone or just some with 1 set of drivers on one type of card. Is it actually something that nevidia has to adjust in their drivers if so how does it effect other games people play and so forth. Overall this game has very few buggs. Plus remember the devs are also working on items players want added to the game. All of of these factor into how long before something gets fix plus what the OP and the first response stated. Not to mention the code for MMOs are incredibly complex. if you change one thing, you could break 20 other things. (you touched on that but I wanted to make it a little more clear).

For all you know, in an internal build of the game, they could have fixed the delay issue, but now for some reason half the abilities just don't work. Its things like that they have to overcome and sometimes that means completely rewriting code.

Lets ignore the fact that they also are not implementing:

Correct tags to sounds.

Force stances for pets (can have multiples).

Level restricting the zones they dont want players in or the loot.

or... Heck heres a threat http://www.swtor.com/community/showthread.php?t=89111 have fun noting the small fixes they could make that are significantly more intresting then emotes on SEGWAYS.
