Explain Luke Skywalker's feats

Can someone explain why Luke is so ridiculously overpowered after the ROTJ and how did he manage to get there?

In every thread about Palpatine vs Windu and other palpatine challenges someone comes and says that Luke is the most powerful jedi with outstanding force powers and feats - what and why?

People said that palpatine could create wormholes, devour planets and other over the top things, how can Luke beat that?

Imagine the force as a god (not the God, just a nondescript very, very powerful god). Now this force decides one day to knock up some slave on Tatooine. The resulting offspring has the potential to be the incarnate of the force, more powerful than any practitioner. Unfortunately said offspring was emo and got himself nearly killed as a result. BUT, you got a grandson. Good kid, kinda flighty, but potential. So you invest the mission that you had for your kid on your grandkid. To be the incarnate of the force.

The grandkid manages to get your emo kid to fulfill his destiny and bring balance to you. Now the grandkid can be your mortal representative.

That's how.

I know the story, didn't read the books - In movies he just seems like a nice jedi with great control of his emotions. And that's it - how does he go from this to toppin the 'wormholes that consume star fleets' and 'killin billion of people on planets with will'.

I've always had a good philosophy regarding star wars. If your going to have a good debate about it avoid using Luke, Vader, or the Emperor because no matter what discussion you try to have those three are spammed as the top. Just avoid those three in a SW discussion and your able to have a decent debate.

At least it somewhat makes a little sense seeing as in the movies its stated the force can do anything a few times or implied, at least its not like Superman where he gets all these insane powers just because. (Not normal superman, but the other versions of him.) Edited by Wolfninjajedi

At least Palpatine gained his powers over 1000 years of training and gaining knowledge.

Anakin who was supposedly made by the force couldn't do **** compared to Luke at same age (I still dunno what Luke can actually do that tops wormholes ;p)

Palpatine was born 80 BBy?? Unless your talking about the RoT. And, Luke did all those feats at a much older age...

And Anakin have very impressive feats pre-mustafar. Like being the all master of Djem So..

Wasn't palpatine like hella old?

Also Anakins mastery of djem so...something can't compare to killing someone with mere thoughts on other planet or a freakin wormhole.

Luke created a blackhole and could teleport objects and push down AT-AT's in one force push.

I saw mace windu take down a whole droid carrier with his force and starkiller take out a star destroyer down from orbit, pushing AT-AT is nothing compared to that.

Oh...ya that series has some way OP characters when they really shouldn't be that OP. In fact I don't think its canon anymore due to TCW.

Incorrect. Its still very canon.

Luke has done feats that no other has done. Walking on lava, becoming immovable by the gravity of the center of galaxy, creating a blackhole, teleporting objects, having the strongest force push, being the most skilled lightsaber duelist ever.

Thats why he is the most powerful there is. He has done so much more than what I just listed.

It's that third side of the Force that nobody has ever documented. It's called the whiny side. Luke was the undisputed master of that.

Then, of course, there's also the really bad acting side of the force (which is somewhat related). That's what Anakin was the master of, and this is why he was able to kill so many other Jedi. Unfortunately for him, he started channeling the ghost of the Jedi master James Earl Jones after he put the suit on, and the bad acting/whining side largely deserted him.

And this is why Luke was able to eventually defeat him.

Too many EU authors, Kevin J. Anderson especially, took Vader's statement that "The ability to destroy a planet is insignificant next to the power of the Force" a little too literally.

"Use the Force, Luke!" became the get-out-of-jail-free card for every bad and/or lazy author who wrote Star Wars between Tim Zhan's two Bantam entries (Heir to the Empire/Dark Force Rising/The Last Command trilogy, and Hand of Thrawn duology.) One of my favorite parts in Hand of Thrawn actually occurs near the beginning of the first book, Spectre of the Past, when Luke and Han are trying to figure out how to deal with a pirate ship, and Luke is trying to (in Superman fashion) decide which of his crazy super-powers he'll use to defeat them. . . tear the ship apart with the Force, take control of the minds of the crew and make them sit still while they're arrested, whatever. That's when he sees a vision of Emperor Palpatine and Exar Kun laughing at him, and he realizes that maybe getting flashy with his Force power isn't the best example to set for proper Jedi behavior. A good chunk of those books is devoted to Luke gaining new insight into the Force, specifically the idea that it shouldn't be a hammer to pound every problem into submission.
