Who else wishes you could change subclasses?

I don't know about the rest of you but part way through my play through of my Jedi knight story line I realized I didn't like the guardian's style. but alas once you choose a subclass you're stuck with it. I wish there was a way to change it, I mean you can change your character's appearance, legacy name, guild name, and guild flagship name. so why not your subclass as well?

Everything you mentioned is superficial.

You don't get to flip flop anything that actually messes with game interaction if it wasn't built to do so.

So there's no gender bending and no advanced class swapping.

Also no, you're not stuck with it, you have multiple free slots exactly for this.

These days mostly because it's not a subclass any more. "Commando" is no longer a specialisation of "Trooper". Instead, "Commando" and "Vanguard" share a few basic core abilities and a "class" story, but are effectively distinct classes.

But people have been asking for this ever since I joined the game, probably even earlier. Back in the day it was quite clear that it was meant to be permanent, by design, since a whole series of NPCs AND their friends, and those friends' Akk Dogs, ALL made sure to tell you so.

I would, therefore, strongly recommend not holding your breath while you wait for it to happen. (For reference, I've been playing for FIVE YEARS...)

But if they did, I'd buy ONE for my Vanguard - I discovered that I didn't like it much around level 25 or so, and nothing I did after that improved my opinion of the class.

Why have you not deleted your vanguard and created a commando with the freed up name.

Why have you not deleted your vanguard and created a commando with the freed up name.

Because I spent enough pain to get him to level 64 in the early part of Forged Alliances, and I wanted, without having to go back to the beginning, to finish the Trooper/Elara romance.

And because I have a Commando main that I do most trooperish things with.

I'm not suggesting they let you change all willie nillie maybe let you switch once per character

What exactly does switching between the classes that share a story mess up? Nobody in your story ever comments on you being Commando or Vanguard, or (historically) even plain old Trooper. Both Commando and Vanguard use the same story, the same scripts in any cinematic, etc.

So what exactly would it mess up?

Missions now consider what advanced spec you are.

*also vendors

Originally it gave a pick and mix bag from story missions to cater for both advanced specs. Now you won't get offered a rifle or shield generator if you're a commando.

Nothing in the game cares what label you have as your name, guild or what character appearance you have.

I doubt they will because imagine you progress the story on one character , then switch classes and start playing a different story-line. They'd have to either always reset your progress in a story every time you do that or somehow keep track of your progress.

I guess they didn't want the extra headaches.

I have thought about switching subclasses for my Trooper.

My Trooper is a Vanguard, and I chose the class in part because Aric Jorgan used the cannon at the time, and I wanted the Trooper Team to have different weapons. Then SWTOR changed Jorgan's primary weapon.

I was disappointed with that.

Aric had a cannon since launch.

Then for 5.0 or whenever they remembered that way back in time he used to be a sniper in the deadeyes so he got a sniping cutscene and when they rehashed his weapon it was changed from rifle/cannon to rifle/sniper rifle.

Sure, but I don't see how that qualifies as something it would mess up, unless something was bugged... If you're a commando when you finish the mission, you get commando rewards, and if you're a vanguard, you get vanguard rewards.

Same for the gear vendors - they follow your active spec, and they certainly cope with you changing discipline, so why not class as well?

Switching subclass, or rather Advanced Class, would not change your storyline or companion, because the Base Class would be the same. So nothing need to change, no story reset. Kind of like respec.

Yeah, I wish I can abandon and switch advanced class, like disciplines. Having the option to abandon adv class also mean we can play as base class, which I heard yields a pretty refreshing experience. You get basic stuffs like simple attacks, stun, interrupt, etc., so it's kind of playable, and force you to make the best use of these tools.

Tanno Vik should of had the assault cannon. My 2 cents.
