Chomag
I'm confused here. Unlike commandos who must always be at range to do their thing, the vanguard also has a hefty amount of high damaging abilities that require close range, making a strict ranged playstyle look awkward when you're doing much less damage than you would if you moved in. So, what ? During leveling, you just run towards a group while spamming hammer shot and then go pulse cannon - stock strike - single target pulse cannon (forgot name) - rinse and repeat ? Or do you just stand at range if no melee mobs come at you ? What about pvp ? Do you stand at range for as long as possible and only use close range attacks if the enemy comes at you OR do you rush into them and hope for heals, like a melee ? punkniner
I rush in, always. Vanguard is much more effective this way.
Jannah
In PvP you do the opposite of your opponent's strength. If they are melee, you kite them using your 30m and 10m ranged abilities. If they are ranged, you melee them. This is what makes the vanguard and powertech one of the most versatile PvP classes around.

Kesrik
You can regularly 1v2 people in Warzones just by playing to your strengths. Line of sight the ranged class while keeping the melee at 10 yards with your slow (Assault Specialist ftw!). Had a Alderaan game today where I defended a node for 3 minute 1v3 just by dotting all 3 of them, and running away. Came out and burst whenever one of them got to half health from my dots. Ended up killing 2 out of 3 before I died, and killed the last guy after I respawned. He sat there not being able to tap because he had a 18 second dot on him

The ability is even highlighted in green so you can't possibly miss it. Could I have just told you what the ability was, like Krytorchid? Sure. But, it's much better to teach a man to fish, don't you think?

Kesrik
YEAH! I must be the best Shield Specialist on the forums, because your agro is off the charts! You only generate aggro when you deal damage, but you can't because you are specced into some crazy bad hybrid build. You pretty much only have aggro when you taunt me, but you get smashed right away because, again, you are are specced into some horrible hybrid build.
