I like the idea and don't hear too often game developers willing to speak and get direct input about a game.

You naysayers though need to make up your minds. Several threads state how upset you guys are about BW not listening but your upset when they want you to talk to them.

They should pay for this or give some sort of voucher just like they would a adviser. They will make money off the advice they give won't they?

But I guess they feel like they are some sort of "star" and are giving them the privileged face time to lesser people.

This.

You either want to help make this game succeed, or you want to continue crying into your cheerios. Whichever it is, make up your mind.

The US is a bit far away. Are they thinking of planning an European summit as well? Amsterdam would be ok :) You Americans will love it :p

I somehow doubt that, too much 'socialism' not enough Glenn Beck.

Again, some effort to include European players would be nice. A separate summit session would be ideal - a small number (5 or 10?) funded places for Europeans to travel over would perhaps wind up being a cheaper alternative.

I think this is a great idea.. nice to see BW opening up yet another avenue for receiving feedback from the playerbase!

edit.. for those curious about EU representation.. Stephen Reid just said this over on Twitter:

We have already invited a significant number of guilds from all over the world, btw. We have plenty of EU representation.

Here is the bigger issue, for those that are selected, you are making them pay for all travel, food, and lodging; yet, because it is invite only, they won't know until they are selected, meaning that they'll not be able to look for the best price. If it was voluntary, then yeah, I could see that, and I could've bought cheap tickets and reserved my hotel today, but the closer you get, the more expensive things become.

So they reach out to Guild Leaders in order to foster communication with the player base and they still get bashed? I have been a critic of BW's communication, but I see this as a nice step forward. Is it going to be perfect to everyone? No. But BW doesn't even have to try to hold events like this. I think this is a big positive. Edited by PjPablo

I truly can't believe that people are aghast at the idea they would have to pay for their own travel arrangements.

I truly can't believe that people are ignorant of the fact what it would cost, $2000+ for me, to fly out to Texas.

Let me take a wild guess, you have either a well paying job, live in America or are just trolling. Which is it?

Since when is it not voluntary? You could always, you know, not go.

I'm glad that Bioware is investing in the long-term by soliciting the GLs for information.

Good GLs spend a lot of time organizing people and helping them have fun playing SWTOR. They become one of the more potent "retention forces" for subscriptions AND they become part of a very loose system of behaviorial checks and balances for the community.

Good for you, Bioware. If my guild gets a seat I'd be more than willing to spend some of my vacation $$$ to come see you guys in Austin.

These are probably the same people who think the game should go F2P now so they don't have to pay to play the game.

Totally agree. The raging whinefest on these boards is always good for a laugh to start the morning though....so I've gotta thank them for that.

I suggest you guys don't do this because you are going to get flamed so bad for what state the game is in right now. I would say fix the game(hint hint guild features hint hint) features first and do some nonsense like this.

There may be some concerns raised but you wont see the idiocy that you see on these forums. Its a lot harder to be a tough guy in real life as opposed to being an internet ******

This.

Logical fallacy.

So in your mind, those who want to help this game succeed, should have no problem with asking a very small group of very specific people, to pay to travel to Bioware's home and repeat ad nauseum what is repeatedly posted here on the board, while alienating those not invited.

While those who find this insulting and stupid, clearly want this game to fail.

Are these guild leaders more important, insightful, smarter, than anyone else? Are these select chosen more important than you? Because that's exactly what Bioware is telling you, and you seem to be thanking them for it.

To you that's a great idea. To you, anyone who sees the BS in this event hates the game and doesn't want to help.

Let me ask you something, what do you think is going to be said there that hasn't already been said every day here for several months?

Why can I not want to help this game, without having to accept a publicity stunt?

Geez... Atlanta GA to Austin TX from Sat through early morning Weds is only a $137 flight on Delta. I kinda wanna book the ticket and then get a refund if I don't end up going.

Sat 03 Mar 2012| 1:45pm ATL to 3:19pm AUS| Nonstop| DL 2066

Wed 07 Mar 2012| 7:00am AUS to 10:12amATL| Nonstop| DL 1308

I could go in early, do the Austin thing Saturday night... and be back a little late at work on Wednesday.

Hmmm.... $137 is chump change...

Those of you who are concerned about hotels: We've been working very closely with the DoubleTree to get a great rate for the event, and we've got a block of rooms being held for those who are coming. In addition, we're working with hotels in the immediate area to get a variety of rates for anyone who wishes to come. No one needs to worry about having to wait until the last minute to book hotels, as that's something we've already taken care of. If your guild's application is accepted, we'll be in touch with all the options we've put together in the Austin area.

If you have more questions about the event, I encourage you to email guilds@swtor.com and I'll be happy to provide more information.

Not the worst idea BW have had in a while tbh. Two things of note though... I hope this is NOT a smoke screen to give them time to sweep issues under the floor till then or to delay any pressing forthcoming fixes/implementations....

and secondly, I have very little faith in BW selection policy looking back at Beta and the amount of problems and issues that have been on-going since that time. How do I know if my leader is not selected that my views and concerns will be properly represented by Bioware's 'selection' policy e.g. inviting leaders from guilds who slap BW on the back at every turn and are too blinkered to see things for what they are??
