Both sound like good starters for a fic I'm really bad at getting round to writing so it won't be me

 

Maybe one day I’ll finally manage to write one, I just jump around too frequently. There are specific moments that speak to me, and I enjoy revisiting, but I have trouble being patient enough to fill in the gaps and communicate my vision fully.

 

But, I genuinely love the relationship between the Warrior and Malavai, it’s not the best romance story in terms of being wholesome or something to aspire to, but the dynamics of it are just so fascinating to me. As a character Malavai really feels well-defined, and makes exploring the relationship more engaging and rewarding.

 

I’ve replayed the Warrior’s story several times, and even recorded a play though to rewatch, because it succeeds so well at fulfilling the roleplay angle and allowing you to really live through the character.

 

Honestly, I play other MMO’s, but it’s the Love Interests in this game, specifically Malavai’s, that have managed to keep me coming back even after years long hiatuses. It sticks with you.

I agree with all of this. I also like how the Warrior class story is excellent even without the Malavai romance. I created both a female and male Warrior to see how the interactions differ when Malavai is a friend and close confident rather than lover and the story with both are still really good. I never get bored playing a Warrior. I think of all the class stories the Warrior still has the best antagonist in Baras. I don't think any of the other classes fully interact with the same enemy through all three acts of their class story & Malavai having history with Baras which comes back in "the Quinncident" makes this story superb.

 

It's such a shame that there has been little interaction with Malavai beyond the class story.

 

I've recorded various conversation responses with Malavai but haven't recorded the whole class playthrough. Time to get yet another external hard drive just for this.

Do any of y’all have a specific planet where you head cannon your relationship with Malavai going from flirty to more serious?

 

Personally I’ve always imagined Tatooine to be the major turning point for my character and Quinn. I’ve always thought it fit well because of the spiritual journey (and ideally growth/maturing) your character experiences there along with some fitting cutscenes.

 

Master Yonlach makes mention of Quinn’s feelings if you pick the right options (which happens towards the end of the planet arc) and you get one of my favorite fun exchanges where finally Quinn plays along a bit with the flirting when you go to leave:

“It will be a pleasure to put this over-heated sandbox behind us.”

 

“You look good with a tan, captain.”

 

“I hope it hides my blushes, my lord.”

 

As a side note, been enjoying making different outfits for Quinn, will have to share some of the screenshots once I’ve finished.

I think his comment about Quinn's devotion is a good example of why many of us chose to interpret the "incident" as being thrown so the warrior is guaranteed to win. Contrast what Yonlach says about Quinn with what he says about Vette. He says Vette secretly hopes the warrior fails to defeat Yonlach.

 

I don't really picture the relationship getting serious until later. Since companion conversations are gated by planet instead of influence, I'm not sure when the dialogue about Quinn wanting a transfer takes place. I think of that as the turning point.

Yeah, I can see the “incident” going either way depending on how you’ve treated Quinn up to that point, but the people who think Quinn was faking the whole time seem to be ignoring the plain evidence otherwise. Also that is fascinating about Vette, I had no idea!

That makes sense! I need to do one more run through to record a scene I missed before, I plan to write down when each cutscene unlocks because I always forget too. (No time like the present with the double exp)

 

I think of the relationship as having 3 stages: 1) Quinn respects your effectiveness as a Warrior, and grudgingly tolerates your flirting as an annoying quirk. 2) Quinn starts to appreciate the flirting and reciprocate the attraction, but remains distant due to his professional concerns. I think there is also some degree of denial about the extent to which he’s fallen for you here 3) Quinn can no longer deny the depth of his feelings, and acknowledges the attraction to you and himself and things become physical.

 

I picture Tatooine as being the shift from 1 to 2. I feel like we’re probably on the same page that the physical intimacy/direct acknowledgments wouldn’t come until later.

LOL, really! I almost spat out my drink when I read that. I was so focused on Quinn that I didn't even notice him. I only saw interviews with the Agent, but he's clearly a great actor, and his voice is amazing.
