The Red Rose Syndicate is primarily centered around the Gray RP that is found on the Progenitor server. Specifically, in order to deliver the best kind of Criminal Roleplay we have taken up the Mafia-niche in a Star Wars setting. We draw inspiration from the American, the Sicilian, the Russian, the Chinese, and the Japanese mafias in addition to drawing upon movies (The Godfather) TV shows (The Sopranos, Boardwalk Empire, Gungrave) videogames (GTA IV, Mafia 2) and of course Star Wars.

 

Our focus is to deliver intensive, creative, and an authentic Roleplaying experience to our members. This is accomplished through nitty-gritty dirty work, smuggling, and information dealing. Utilizing Rolling systems such TOR D6: Roses Edition (which you may find on our website), we try to create an immersive storytelling environment best suited for the Roleplay we partake in. We also attempt to reach out to other guilds as well to do business and get some inter-guild occurrence going.

 

Our guild members generally Roleplay as the Criminals with amoral beliefs, knowing that survival comes in the form of working for the Family. They hold no ties to the Republic or Empire. By working for the Family and ensuring it's goals are met, the redistribution of wealth occurs and everyone is given their dues. The business of the Mafia is business. In this galaxy of "kill or be killed" it becomes necessary to ban together with a group of like-minded individuals. Be it a clan, or political body, loyalty to one another, loyalty to a group necessitates survival as the group will reciprocate loyalty to you.

As the galaxy is firmly steeped in its pointless war, as the soldiers fight, as the Sith kill and the Jedi protect, the basic rule that defines all life re-iterates itself. This rule is savage, but it is backed by undeniable facts. This basic rule of existence is not only found in basic organisms but also in sentient beings as well. This basic rule of existence had laid down the foundations of evolution and guided it since. This basic rule of existence serves as the underlying basis in the reason behind every action made by a sentient. Survival of the fittest.

 

As a testament to the cruel and primitive laws of the galaxy, the rule that twisted and shaped the face of all things living, people gathered to force their will on the cruel Mistress of fate. All throughout history, groups of men and women have risen and fallen, giving birth to empires and shattered nations. As people gather, as minds learn to think alike, the face of the galaxy changes colors. One of these groups built themselves a Family, reaching out to grasp for the foundations of civilization and carve out a place for themselves. Credits greased the machine, and power ruled it just like it had so many times before.

 

Secrecy was their domain, portrayed by the symbol they chose: A Red Rose.

 

When they started on the Smuggler's Moon, they started to crawl. As a loose-knit band that sought fortune they did what they could to earn. Eventually they began to walk, migrating to Tatooine to find other means of business. They utilized the power of the people and camouflaging in the lawlessness of their society. Moving on from Tatooine and back to Nar Shaddaa then Coruscant, they began to run. Organization and strict hierarchy became their mode of delegation. Alliances were forged in the name of common interest and the currency of loyalty was paid in blood. Blood is the heaviest of currencies is it not?

 

Settling back on Nar Shaddaa once more this Family had grown considerably thanks to their creed. Interstellar travel was a staple in their business, violence was the glue that held their business together. Whoever struck the Family would pay ten times the cost. The Roses would be guided by three people: a mind entrenched in the fires of war, a mind formed the inhuman misery, and a mind fashioned by cold calculation.

 

However, galactic history has shown us that the rise and fall of powers no matter how big or small has always been attributed to carelessness. One tiny slip-up and you'd be infected with a flesh eating disease or tossed onto Belsavis. The Roses were not immune to this. How easily the mighty can fall

 

A simple sting operation led to their fragmentation. Some were captured, some decided to flee. Others were simply never seen again.

 

With the Rose withering, new seeds had to be planted. So they gathered on Ord Mantell. To lick their wounds, to recover, and to rekindle Family ties.

Let's start from the bottom up, shall we?

 

 

Nobody- This rank is more of a trial rank for new folks who have joined the Family. This our chance to showcase what we are about as well as having giving them a taste of our RP. Similar to how one might get a free 7-day trial run, this rank is to help folk decide whether they would like to stay in our guild or simply move on to find another. In order to become a full fledged member of the Roses you must fulfill a few requirements:

 

-Attend 3 consecutive RP events (Guild Meetings do not count)

-Submit a Character Sheet to your guild administration

-Attend at least one Family Dinner or listen to the most recent recording

-Understand the Escape Clause

-Having an IC recommendation from an Associate or higher ranking Rose

 

 

 

Newblood-Should one decide to stay with the Family, they will pledge their loyalty to the Family and move to make money with us. They will start out at the bottom most rung of the ladder and move to work their way up. While we understand that everyone would like to be a person of importance. We also believe that in order to get to that point, they must work for it through RP and Character Development, hence starting at the bottom. As the name implies, this rank signifies the "newbie” rank. This rank shows that you are learning the workings of the Roses. It may take some people a few days to shed this rank and move on, it may take other characters several weeks. Ultimately it’s up to how your character understands the workings of the Family.

 

 

 

Associate-The most normative definition for this rank is also the most general case that occurs when you move up in rank. As a Newblood you now have had an adequate amount of time to understand what the Red Rose Syndicate is about. You know how the gears work, the way the hierarchy is structured, how to go about working the pecking order. You understand the ideals of the Family and why it does what it does to make money and earn power. All and all you are generally acquainted with the working gears of the Family.

 

However, if your character does not wish to become any more involved with the Family. He/she can stay at the rank of associate. The rank of associate can also be recommended for a New Blood by a Man of Honor/Lady of Grace (a "Made” person). In this case, say if we have Little Jimmy who joins as a New Blood. But demonstrates that he has capability to understand the Roses without need for a waiting time, a "Made” person can make a recommendation. The Boss will then take this recommendation into consideration. Call in the New Blood for a talk. And perhaps subsequently promote said New Blood.

 

 

Made Man- It is always a momentous occasion when a person is "Made”. Upon receiving this rank, you now have the utmost trust from the Boss and the Captains. We now know you will stay true to us and we don’t have any doubts you have the interest of the Family at heart. This also grants you an older-sibling role that was mentioned earlier. You get to guide people and actually shape the way the guild is heading in a certain way. What this means is that it becomes part of your responsibility to lead the incoming Newbloods and command the Associates for the good of the Family. This way, your character not only grows. But you get to watch and help the characters of others grow as well.

 

Then you’ll be given an explanation of how the guild came to be. Why it is the Captains do what they do and the more obscure details about the Family. This way you will be able to understand what is happening to the guild and the Family on a much broader scale. Your character will be in-tune with the decisions made and put forth any input it may have about certain matters.

 

When your character gets "Made” there is a ceremony held with the rest of the Family watching. You will be given the title of Man of Honor (should your character be a male) or Lady of Grace (should your character be female). You will take your oaths as Man of Honor or Lady of Grace, receive a special mark and official recognition. Responsibilities will be placed on your character’s shoulders as well. You will find yourself calling the shots ICly for each mission or event in a storyline that the guild undertakes. This means that you will find your character leading a crew as well.

 

 

 

Captain- Being a Captain essentially means you are the voice of the Boss, his hands, and the extension of his power incarnate. It is the Captains that are responsible for overseeing each arm of the Family. Where the Big Boss is the CEO, the Captains are his board of Directors. A Captain is a Rose whose loyalty to the Boss and the Family is completely unbreakable. In times of strife they have no qualms with working with their fellow Captains to make sure that the Family survives. That’s not too far from their original objective: Ensuring the survival of the Family.

 

The road to becoming a Captain may be long and arduous for some, short and upstart for others. What usually marks a potential Captain from the rest of the Roses is their dedication in tandem with their cunning and zeal for the Family. These are the folk who lead over the Made Men, the Newbloods, and the Associates, therefore these three traits are a necessity.

 

Captains are also not afraid to question the Boss’s orders. This shows that they possess a mind of their own, evaluating each action before taking it and only question orders for the good of the Family. Captains are responsible for overseeing the family business ventures as a whole and coordinate with their Made Men in order to call the shots over their money-making businesses.

 

 

Big Boss- Big Boss, or Boss for short, is the President, Patriarch, CEO, Head Executive, and Prime Minister of the Family. All Family matters begin with Big Boss. All Family matters end with Big Boss. When someone becomes the Boss, they forfeit their previous identity and sacrifice themselves wholly to the Family. In short, Big Boss is the the quintessential Man of Honor/Lady of Grace, the most refined of Captains. Every action the Boss takes must be for the Good of the Family.

 

The Boss paves the way for the Family’s growth and well-being. He must inherit the sins of his predecessors, shoulder the burden of his own flaws, and carry the mistakes of the Family. His position is not one to be coveted, for the power of the Boss is a necessary curse to ensure the Family’s survival. Once someone takes the title and rank of Boss, they will carry that responsibility until his death. Family will never challenge him for his position, lest they face the Consequences.

Professions

In the Red Rose Syndicate, we have now instituted Professions. That is different ways your character can actually fit into our Mafia Niche. We have 3 main branches of RP that all work together in order to bring out that feeling of organized Crime as guildmembers Roleplay with us. Each branch houses a group of roles that might interest you and provide you a good picture of what it is that we do.

 

Enforcers- The Enforcers are essentially the Blades of the Family. Inside the Family they are better known for their skill with weapons. The lower deviants would call them the "Muscle”. Those who have an affinity for bloodshed, those who are drawn to constant blasterfights, and the will to fight belong with this branch. They defend our turf, go after our bounties, ensure that our assets’ safety but above all: Protect the Family’s interests. These guys take to the neon-lit streets and fight in the myriad alleyways. If you’re handy with a blaster, sharp with a vibro-blade, then you should roll with this branch. They have three different purposes in the Family.

 

Protection- This is the integral purpose of the Enforcers. We are not actionary, we are reactionary. We do not start fights. We finish them. We do not fight the wars. We conclude them. We must never leave our assets vulnerable. Protecting what's ours comes first for us. If anyone attempts to undermine the Family or assume to attack it, it falls to the Enforcers to obliterate their directive. Whatever damages these enemies may cause, they will pay for in blood. After all, blood is the heaviest of currencies.

 

Collection-This goes hand-in-hand with Protection. In fact, majority of our purposes will always stem back to Protection. As we do business with our partners it also falls to us to collect our payments and tributes that are owed to us. We collect the taxes from our territory, collect on loans, and ensuring the safety of the money. Those who do not pay must be "reminded" of the reasons we do business with them in the first place. These Guns of Ours are an important vector in accomplishing this goal

 

Special Favors-Sometimes our Business Partners may approach the Family and ask for a service. Perhaps to make some to disappear or arrange a tragic accident for a fellow. Maybe a wife caught her spouse cheating and desired revenge, thus she came to us pleading for justice. Why would we deny this poor woman of the justice she rightly deserves? In our infinite generosity towards our allies, this task falls to us fulfill and we must put all efforts in accomplishing this task.

 

 

 

Smuggling- This branch of the Family is mainly involved in the shipments of goods around the galaxy. In this branch, we provide the nitty gritty Smuggling environment which made Han Solo renowned. Add a dash of influence from the popular Firefly series and some good ol' fashion Rolling thanks to our Smuggling D6 system and you might find yourself traversing the stars with your crew.

 

Smugglers- These guys are generally tasked with transporting our cargo to where it needs to be, and usually as silently as possible, using their cunning to slip by checkpoints without notice. They brave the perils of the galaxy to get to their destination and see the supplies through.

 

Flagship and strike squadron positions- Positions in this field, as well as supporting combat ships are also available. These kinds of jobs are required to protect our transportation ships and routes from various threats in space. Jobs include fighter pilots and operators of bigger ships' weapons and other devices, as well as supporting roles such as engineers or medics.

 

Planetary contacts- When cargo is transferred to a specified location, sometimes individuals are needed to work on planet's surface. It is one thing to ship goods, distribution is another thing. Various planetary operations can also help with the smooth running of the space business. Spice distributors and other merchants are needed, as well as ground-based support of our smuggling ships, including the maintaining of safe hangars and maintenance of the smuggling ships' cover.

 

 

Intelligence- This branch handles the flow of information pertaining to the streets. In war, the most valuable is information. There it's an essential reference That being said information, word of mouth, word on the street, whispers uttered in a cantina, one can never know too much. The intelligence branch of the Family is obviously the branch that deals the most in this field.

 

 

Slicer- Someone who has a well-trained aptitude for electronics and what-not. Re-writing a shipping manifest, electronically breaking into a bank account, manipulating a security system. Slicers are the heralds of digitally stored information and are generally needed to retrieve them.

 

Courtesan-Courtesans generally personify the elegance of the Family. They have to be able to squeeze information out of a person faster they can spill a drink. With jewel-like eyes and a voice sweet as honey, these folk of the oldest profession must have their target sing of their weakness and spill all of their secrets without even knowing so. Sometimes their jobs will include entrancing their victims for the Enforcers, who then move in to take the victim out. Sometimes they will be told to keep an eye on a "person of interest".

 

Mixologist- The layman knows these as "bartender" or "barkeep". What most people fail to realize is that alot of whispers are exchanged in a cantina. Tapping into a Mixologist would mean having access to these whispers. Therefore those who find themselves in this sort of work for the Family would be situated in cantinas, having an ever present ear ready as they serve drinks out to customers. Sometimes a person's best friend is the guy who brings the liquor

 

Family Surgeon- Funnily enough the last guy who was a Family Surgeon died due to high degree burns. Someone who intimately knows their way around the medical profession can definitely find refuge here. A surgeon will be working with a special client list and takes their payment in favors. Similar to Osamu Tezuka's Blackjack, surgeons will always be listening.

So what? The Red Rose Syndicate is back. What does this entail for the community at large? Well I'll glad you tell you the answer Little Jimmy!

 

For now as we ICly re-build and reclaim our power, our general input in the community will be at most minimal. However in time, as we re-grow and get things started again you can definitely expect us to reach out to the community and bring back community events for folk that enjoyed them. What does this mean?

 

The return of Fight Night.

 

Yessiree, the return Fight Night is our attempt to bring the griminess of the Criminal Underworld to Roleplayers all around. When the time comes, it will return and we will attempt to get the underground pit-fighting going once again.

 

The introduction of the Falling Petal Casino.

 

With Galactic Strongholds expansion nearing ever closer, the Red Rose Syndicate will be moving to acquire their own casino. And with it, hopefully open it's doors to the public to come in and enjoy themselves. This hopefully mean that we can host monthly Casino events in which your character can come in and can have a go at the Pazaak Tables, Liar's Dice, or the cardgame War.

-What faction can I find you guys on?

**We generally inhabit the Republic-side. However make no mistake, we have no love for the Republic (ICly that is). Our alignment is neutral, we only look out for ourselves. To further flesh this notion out, there is also a Red Rose Syndicate on the Imperial Side as well so that we may have access to Imperial Sided areas.

 

 

-What is your main focus?

**Heavy RP. More specifically, Criminal RP associated with the Mafia Niche. We are not heroes who go about saving dancers from a life of carnal torment or try to prevent Gree artifacts from falling into the hands of maniacal space-hippies. So if you play a character who is a thief with a heart of gold, I'm afraid good sir/kind madame, you might struggle a bit with us.

-You guys seem pretty elitist you know. First an overly long recruitment post that'll have most people skimming, then some whacky 40+ paged rolling system that's confusing as hell, a really decked out Forum, what's next? No Force-sensitives?

**Well I do apologize if you feel that we are elitist, it's not our intention. The main thing about our guild is trying to deliver quality Roleplay to our members. To do this we need an adaptive structure that allows us to do so. So what you see is not so much elitism, but structure that people need to follow in order to maximize their enjoyment when participating in our events.

 

And since you bring Force-sensitives up, we are very selective about Force-sensitives. The reason being is that we have had some less than friendly interactions in the past and to authenticate the fact that Force-sensitives are found in at least 1 in 10,000 ratio, the chances of a Force-sensitive, much less one that has dark-sided or light-sided leanings, would not really be found in an intricate Criminal Syndicate. We do apologize if you feel discriminated, we do not apologize for trying to be realistic.
