Elite: Dangerous

Thought it was time Elite: Dangerous got its own thread rather than causing confrontation in the Star Citizen thread. I'm a big fan of the old time space shooters, both the classic 'Elite' from David Braben and Ian Bell and the 'Wingcommander/ Privateer/ Freelancer' games from Chris Roberts.

While I'm having a blast in SWTOR's Galactic Star FIghter it doesn't have any of the free roaming trade aspect I love from some of the older games.

Anyway I'll let you make your own minds up :)

This recent fan made video using gameplay from the alpha stage shows the games potential for visuals,

I'm also very keen on Elite: Dangerous. I am more thrilled about Star Citizen TBH since it's closer to what I want from a space game but I am definitely picking up E: D, I can't wait! :D I think most space fans will be playing - or at least trying - both games, plus Roberts and Braben have supported each other in their games so it's more of a healthy, friendly competition between the two anyway.

We're really lucky, two awesome space games await us!

Elite: Dangerous had a stall at the recent BAFTA Games awards.

Thanks to the many attendees that have posting their experience of the latest Alpha build (3).

One of the most extensive demos I've found so far...

And the official docking guide here...

The guys from Lave Radio have put up their BAFTA coverage of David Braben's talk (Outside Broadcast pt1 - David Braben Development Talk) and interview (Outside Broadcast pt2 - David Braben Interview Talk)

Looking good :)

And with Alpha 3 released sometime today (Friday 14th) I imagine there will be plenty of You Tube clips popping up over the weekend :)

Had my hands on the Alpha 1.1 build for the last couple of weeks. Really brings back the memories of the original Elite combat.

Can't wait to get my hands on the Premium Beta release on 30th May, will be able to see if they've managed to capture the trading of Frontiers as well (all be it limited to a small area of the galaxy at first)

Another great fan made video by Neon Raven

while I wait ;) Edited by Vhaegrant

Not just games ... dyed in the wool sims. Alpha pledged to SC and beta pledged to Elite. Pre-ordered a Saitek X-55 Rhino from Madcatz just for the occasion(s). Edited by GalacticKegger

I'm hoping that technically this doesn't count as a bump ;)

Alpha 4 was released a few days ago and the Alpha backers have started to flood You Tube with clips of the implementation of the galaxy map and local 5 stars they have to play in.

A bit early yet to see any of the new ships (the Anaconda is priced just under 4 million credits) but some of the clips of the warp effect are pretty good, bearing in mind this is still alpha leading into the beta premium.

There are so many clips but here's one I enjoyed that shows the best of the new features...
