I've been away for a long, long time. Since just after BW gave us the Togruta to play. Will that be the last species they add? Is that conversation done?

They haven't really said anything at all about new species. Most people want Nautolan but no real acknowledgement from the Devs.

I want Evocii.🎅
Hairy Co-pilot.

They mentioned something about species on the last livestream although the notes I read on it were vague. I couldn't tell if they were talking about new species or upgrading the existing ones.

I'm angry that the ones we have now are just cosmetic. For cryin' out loud Jorgan asks a female Cathar if she wants to adopt! Being nonhuman means Nothing in this game! They should fix that first!

That's because they didn't rewrite the conversations and/or add new branches when they added playable Cathar. The guy who gives the "Stolen Medicine" mission will carefully tell your Cathar character what a Cathar is, for example, as if you wouldn't know.

There's an entire planet of Cathar (Taris) that don't acknowledge that your Cathar and talk to you about being a Cathar, what it's like to be Cathar, etc, even if you're playing as one.

The problem is that much of the game's dialogue was written and recorded before the races were finalized. They (the writers) knew that Chiss and Sith Purebloods were (originally) exclusive to the Agent and Warrior classes which is why those class/race combinations have unique race specific dialogue where as a race like Cyborg couldn't be acknowledge in any conversations due to how late they were added into the game.

Many MMOs depict race as a specific factor with your character as it will/can determine starting area, stats, bonuses, etc, however SWTOR went the other way and made the character class the focus instead of the race. Your race is fairly irrelevant in the grand scheme of what you're doing and accomplishing in the game.

There's just no way they're going to go back and alter all that dialogue given how little of it there is in the grand scheme of things or how lore breaking it could be. For example lets say they made the Voss playable. In your head you think "Well they can't, that would be lore breaking, it would be really weird having an entire planet of Voss not acknowledge that you are Voss, etc" but what percentage of the overall game does/would that actually effect? Very little right when compared against the rest of the game?

They would also need to adjust/add/change the dialogue every time they wanted to do a new race which would be crazy.

At this point most people seem to understand that the races are just cosmetic and so if that's the case then they (Bioware) should just go crazy and add whatever races they can regardless of lore/dialogue.

Cyborg shouldn't be acknowledged as noticeably different to human anyway. Well, except if the question of the cybernetics shows up, but you shouldn't be greeted as "alien filth" by Bessiker Junior, for example.

But it's somewhat jarring for Jadus's bodyguards to tell your agent and Kaliyo on Dromund Kaas that "The Rattataki must wait outside" when you are also a Rattataki.

There's more than just Voss that should change:
* The end of the Battle for Ilum FP.
* All your conversations with Sana-Rae (If you're a Voss, you know what Mystics are, so you don't automatically think it's weird that she left Voss to join the Alliance.)
* The sequences leading up to Voss where everyone treats it as a mystery world.
* Anything involving Jedi training, like, say, being a Consular or Knight, when you get to Voss and realise the peculiarity of nobody on Tython ever even noticing that you're from this place with Force users who are neither light nor dark, that is, almost Sith.

But Voss itself would become pretty much complete gibberish if the player was a Voss. Not one thing said by one NPC or even the player would make sense(1). (Notably the Agent story would make even less sense than the others.)

(1) I'm exaggerating slightly here, but only slightly. I'm thinking notably of that one Republic Planetary Arc mission with the Imperial spy - your conversation with him would actually be vaguely reasonable even if you are a Voss.

The comment seems so vague...

"we want to do more for races. I know it's in the works."

Are they talking about updating the existing races or adding more races?

I feel like they should do an update that makes tweaks/changes/edits to the character creation alongside adding a new race or two. "Hey not interested in this new race (or these two new races) well don't worry because we've made a number of changes to character creator that now include..."
