Steam Trading Cards are not dropping

I have purchased 5500 CC pack via Steam Overlay and got zero cards for this.

Steam Support says it's up to the Devs to choose what causes Cards to drop. I believe that purchasing CC should qualify and it's a bug.

Here is the response from Steam Support:

Here are some threads from Steam Discussions where numerous people confirm that spending money in SWTOR does not give any cards (and it should):

if you look at the threads you posted, people have said the cards drop, but it takes a few days, how long ago to you buy the itmes?

2 weeks ago. The thing is, the badge has a progress bar of money spent in game and it didn't move an inch for me.

Justify. Why "should" that give trading cards? Where did *BioWare* say that buying CCs would give trading cards?

Steam trading cards for F2P games drop for in-game purchases made via Steam. It says so right on the badge. CC are in-game purchases. They should qualify for drops.

That's not good :( Have the CS team said anything?

Well... I did not open in-game support ticket since I don't think it's something a GM can fix. And I don't see any other means to contact EA's support. So that's why I've made this thread. :p

Response from Steam support is in OP. Basically, they say it's on BioWare's side.

Some screens to better illustrate the problem:

Here is a screen from my Steam purchase history where it clearly says that I've made an in-game purchase in SWTOR: https://imgur.com/a/ssj67FO

And here is the screen of my badge's progress bar where it says that I haven't purchased anything in-game: https://imgur.com/a/19vaR6Z

I think it's obvious that these 2 screens contradict each other. :(

Same issue for me as well, bought sub time + CC but no progress on the bar. However i did notice that it says "no card drops remaining". Same with Darth_Postal's Screenshot, also says no card drops remaining. Did they remove the ability to earn cards through ingame purchases then? Or was it never there somehow?

It would be really nice to get an answer regarding this so that we know whether buying cc or sub from steam will count toward card drops or not. I bought some cc recently through steam and also have 'no card drops remaining' showing. I was considering moving my sub to Steam but won't until I know for sure whether I'll get drops for it.

There are enough people talking about this in various places that it would be nice to see an official response to this issue.

From the article:

Trading Cards

A majority of games on Steam come with cool and unique Trading Cards! These virtual cards, earned by buying and playing games on Steam, can be crafted into badges that grant Steam-related rewards. Star Wars: The Old Republic has a total of eight Trading Cards featuring notable characters like Darth Malgus, Satele Shan, HK-55, and others! Collect a set of cards to earn items (like emoticons and backgrounds) you can use to customize your Steam profile and account. Trading Cards, along with emoticons and backgrounds, can also be bought and sold on the Steam Marketplace.

There's a caveat to this that I spoke with Steam support about, which Steam doesn't make clear unless you dive into the FAQs/rules for trading cards:

You have to make the purchase in-game for cards to drop. What that means is that if you go to the SWTOR store page on Steam and buy Cartel Coins or a Subscription there, it doesn't count towards trading cards. The purchase wasn't made in-game, so it doesn't count.

My guess is that means the only qualifying purchase would be to use the "Add Coins" button on the Cartel Market screen and purchase coins there, but I haven't tested this so I can't guarantee it works. It opens up the Steam store page so it seems silly to make that kind of distinction, but they apparently do. I don't think subscriptions can be purchased while "in-game" like that, so they probably don't qualify at all.

And that's exactly what I did. And my purchase history clearly marks this purchase as "In-Game": https://imgur.com/a/ssj67FO

Using the in-game Add Coins button sends the user to the exact same place to buy coins if one were to do it while not in-game, so if there's supposed to be a different Cartel coins interface, i haven't run into that yet myself.

Also the Cartel Coins Ledger seems to be broken as well, the popup screen says a window will redirect to the SWTOR website, and nothing happens.

Either way, I've spent close to $300 on Cartel coins via the only way to purchase them in-game, and I'm kinda sitting here wondering to myself.... are the card drops for the CC purchases just broken right now?

I'm curious if folk are getting cards via the Steam DLC bundles, and thats why there are even SWTOR Steam cards on the market circulating to begin with; that or from creating their own card packs.

I don't really care who it is, Valve, EA, BioWare, somewhere someone is dropping the ball; because of all my years being on Steam, i've never had issues with Card drops; in both Free-to-play (currency drops) and paid games; until this game.

That's what I meant. It opens the same interface that you'd use when buying from outside the game, so I thought that would be a silly distinction to make. I haven't bought CC that way though, so I didn't know for sure it would grant the cards, that was just the only thing I could think of after Steam Support told me that the purchase I made (which was through the store directly outside of the game) didn't count for Trading Cards period.

I do have an update, though, and a possible suggestion for those that have been affected by this. I checked Steam today and randomly had some items in my inventory, and it turns out my purchase was retroactively made eligible for Trading Cards (also confirmed on the badge progress screen). I'm guessing this was done by Steam support themselves, since they simply made the whole purchase count towards SWTOR even though I'd purchased two things at once, one of which wasn't related to SWTOR. So, if you haven't received credit for your purchases yet, I'd heavily suggest putting in a ticket.

So I've just bought a newly-released 14500 CC pack from Steam.

This time I've also tried to use Steam Wallet as payment option since this is what people are usually using for in-game purchases.

But once again my badge progress did not move an inch, so I'm gonna get a flat zero cards for my whooping 14500 CC purchase. Really hate this.
