I am going to f2p soon and need to know how characters I can have active as a f2p

Ah, then you've asked the wrong question. You will be going *Preferred* soon (unless you're going to create a brand-new account), not full F2P, and the rules are different. I believe you'll lose 12 active slots (from 24-by-default to 12-by-default) when you do this. If you can afford the CCs for it, buy and use about that many character slot tokens (er, enough that you have 12 character slots unused), but don't create any new characters.

Key point:
* New accounts that haven't yet spent money(1) on the game are "Free To Play".
* Accounts that have spent money on the game are "Preferred"
* Accounts that are actively subscribed (even on a time-card or cancelled-but-not-expired autorenew) are "Premium", previously "Subscriber".

(1) expired subscriptions, RotHC or SoR expansions, cartel coins, even the digital upgrade pack

as preferred (well subber right now) , the max (If you buy those character slot) is 24 .
