Can someone explain an effective strategy for gaining dark/light side tokens?

I sort of understand you need to level Command Rank while your side is winning. This means 2 or above, right?

However, I don't understand the toggle. Does this mean there's some way to get tokens if the other side is winning, but you switch sides?

Anyone? And does the Light Side ever win?

I think it's rank 1+ for your side, and yes, if you change your toggle to match the current winning side, you'll gain tokens for *that* side. (It's based solely on the toggle, not your current alignment rank.)

To go to Belsavis, you must go to Belsavis.

You only get dark / light tokens during the 1 hour victory state (when one side reached 5.)

Within this hour, chars of the victorious alignment get a 15% CXP bonus and earn tokens with command crates.
Chars of the other alignment can get their tokens by beating the world bosses that spawn during victory state.

Only the value on the alignment-meter counts here: Neutral at -1 is considered dark, 0 and higher is light.

The toggle only determines whether you want to gain dark or lightside points from your gameplay.

if you stay neutral, you can just switch the toggle when you aren't yet on the winning side. After grinding a few dark/light points your alignment meter is in the victorious half, and you get the CXP bonus and start earning the winning side's tokens with your command crates. If you never cared about the toggle, and are at a high dark/light rank, you won't be able to switch sides before the victory state is over.

The downside of being neutral is that the dark/light tokens are pretty useless for you. To equip the gear you need to have the required alignment rank, and even to just buy the stuff for other characters, you first need to change your alignment to the required rank. (PVP is very effective for that.)
Tune down reflections to pre 5.5 values!
Move inventory tabs back to the bottom!

This is wrong. Characters receive tokens if they go up in command rank any time their side is winning, not just in a victory state.

I disagree. I think you get tokens based on your alignment, regardless of the toggle.

Since you get tokens when your side is winning, regardless of whether you're in a victory state or not, what is the point of the victory state? And why is it sometimes 14 hours and sometimes 8 hours?

Victory state is 18 hours from moment of victory, if its shorter you weren't logged in or didn't check until then. Also Dark/Light world bosses spawn in victory state depending on what side was victorious. Also the 15% extra CXP if your alignment is the same as the winning side.

Right.
Forgot they reworked the DvL system in 5.5 and made victory state last 18h.

Do the world bosses respawn now? They used to despawn for good after being attacked, even when the attacker(s) wiped. What was annoying when they spawned every few hours, would be quite an issue with only one spawn per day. (But well, that could be the reason I haven't done any of them for quite some time.)

Nope, they still go poof. Which is why some people on my server at least have been immediately forming groups right as victory state begins by parking toons at boss spawn points to get some bosses before someone accidentally pulls it lol.
