Amikae
It's been a long time since I've played a lightsaber class. Now I've made an Inquisitor and boy was I badly surprised when I've found out, that I can't use either one of the sabers sold for commendations on Dromund Kaas. What the hell? Is it going to be like this all the way up to 50? Because I'm neither dark or light. I remember them saying some time ago, that they are working on reward systems for more neutral players, but I've not found any info on that. Is it still not implemented? There's no way in hell I'm going pure anything.

Suzina
Just because they promised something doesn't mean it's happening. They will not notify you if they decide not to honor a promise. Here's some quotes for you from January 2012: “We knew with the light side/dark side system that there would be an urge, especially for min maxers, to go completely light side or dark side. It happened in Knights of the Old Republic back in 2003. We knew it was going to happen,” said TOR’s game director, James Ohlen. “We have a system for people who want to stay more in the middle. But that’s something coming up in a later release,” he continued. “It’ll let you play a “Gray Jedi”. Basically you don’t need to go to the extreme to get rewarded. You can have a different playstyle. We like to call it the “Gray Jedi” playstyle. That’s coming in a future piece of content.” You are better off just hitting 50 yourself, at whatever pace you choose. Gray Jedi support is comming, but when Hoth melts and Mustafar freezes over. Edited December 26, 2012 by Suzina

SithKoriandr
I don't understand why this is non-sense. I like the mechanic. It puts players choices in their hands. Do you want to do this, or do this. And hey, if you make this choice, you can't have this. That is great! totally upt o you, if you want to play for min/max or not. Jenzali
I play most of my characters as neutral or do not go beyond Dark or Light I and haven't had any problems. As mentioned above you can just remove the mods from any alignment-restricted gear. The only issue are relics. You can get a matrix cube to fill one of the spots. The other relic slot isn't really a big deal since I will get PvP relics as soon as hitting 50.

Also, many storyline are not meant to be played evil or LS only. For example, with the BH you can be a thug, a mandalorian, a greedy mercenary... MediumD
What makes a man turn neutral? Lust for gold? Power? Or were you just born with a heart full of neutrality?

Taleek
The vast majority of items in the game are not restricted to LS/DS, while I agree it's silly that they've been saying "neutral gear is coming" since beta, I don't really see what the big problem is. Amikae
I play the game the same way. It's not, that I never pick dark or ls options. I do pick them, but the choices are never black and white. There are cases people deserve to suffer for their actions and stupidity, but mindless killing has no point too. So really it all balances out.
SickTag
The choices are kind of retarded. The intent is light or dark side but not the actual choice. Hense not killing someone, so they can be taken prisoner and tortured should NOT be a light side choice.
Woimy
On the Republic side, most of the LS/DS choices seem to make sense, or are at least not blatantly stupid. Sith side, the sanity is just missing. Yah, we need you to kill a bunch of innocent people...you'll get light side points if you murder them in a less painful fashion though. Yah, ok, fail. I.e. the sum of points (Dark & Light Side) could determine the level of "grey" affiliation. Lots of ways to do that - I really hope they will at some point implement it. ScionYoto
Here's some food for thought! U can be dark 5 and have evil eyes and veins all over your face but as an 'evil' sage and clearly a dark Jedi I can't use dark side abilities? And why not? And having a stupid legacy ability doesn't count!
SithKoriandr
Being neutral is also a choice. Also, many storyline are not meant to be played evil or LS only. For example, with the BH you can be a thug, a mandalorian, a greedy mercenary... Of course. And by doing so, you're character wouldn't have access to the item. Without the LS/DS restriction, the point of the item is useless. Might as well just say "Got rid of Relics, here's some free stat boosts" It makes the game more interresting. True to the character or true to your stat min/maxing ways. Just staying true to my BH, I've gottten to LS 3 without even trying. If she had ended up neutral, Id just say "Oh well" to the Relics. Might as well just say "Got rid of Relics, here's some free stat boosts" They call those PvP relics. And here I thought this was going to be a thread about there almost being more DS aligned toons the rep side (by ratio) than on the Imp side. AsheraII
If alignments had been done right, then items would've come in alignment ranges, instead of with alignment requirements. So instead of "for saber X you have to be at least Dark I", they would've been more like "you have to be within 1 alignment bracket from Dark I", so either neutral, Dark I or Dark II. It wouldn't *and shouldn't* be usable by players who are Light I, nor by players who are Dark III. Right now, the whole alignment system is set up as "Go for either Dark V or Light V and stick with it" to get access to ALL speeders, social clothing and equipment in that respective color. Which is as shallow a system as it can get really. It basically undermines the entire idea of thinking about your actions or giving your character the personality you want, because doing so simply reduces the potential and options you have available. And to be honest, it's a recurring problem with Bioware games. In ME2, you simply COULDN'T resolve certain situations if you gave your Shepard his/her own personality and turned went a more neutral path. You HAD to go either Paragon or Renegade. Same with Baldur's Gate, same with KotOR, same even with NWN. Though of all those games, KotOR was probably the one that nerfed you the least for being neutral. All depth the player character could have negated by some lousy itemization system and restricted capabilities.
