when naming the smuggler what are your rules on names?

 

 

a real-ish sounding name or non-real name?

 

 

i am having a toss up between (i had to say it) Hand-solo (as a joke pvp name) or a more real sounding name.

 

 

what is the smuggler community's thoughts?

I don't know if I'd go with "hand-solo", sounds like a 13 y/o that spends too much time in the bathroom.

In other games I had a tendency to go to RP servers because the names were decent solid names, and not gonnapwnu and the like. So I prefer the real name

I try to get the same name I've had in MMO's since DAoC and I was lucky enough that a guild member who got in yesterday reserved my name for me.

Real names, that seem to fit the Genre setting, but which aren't straight from the movies, or play on the movies.

 

No Han-Solo or Luke or Vader or the like.

I tend to gravitate toward more authentic names. My main smuggler is a Mirialan with (you guessed it) a Mirialan-sounding, ethnic name (and a couple of good aliases, of course). I think joke names really compromise the immersion factor of a game; it's really jarring to run across either a real-life name or a name like 'Darth Vader' that totally skews the timeline. I'll do the best I can without exhaustively researching Star Wars lore to make a name that sounds like it could fit in the Star Wars Universe. That means my name might be jarring to a true junky, but at least it won't be a silly pun or somethin gripped off of canon (and if it winds up being that, it's not intentional).

 

So, I have Cale and Lyndoari as of right now.

If you want to male a name on the more juvenile/so bad its funny side, theres always HungSoLow.

Well.. Now I ain't gonna write my old names from SWG now.. ( really do wanna keep em )

But I also prefer a name that feels like it fits into the Universe

My character is also Miralian (Not a very common race to be honest, but I like it that way) and since she is female I went for a real name like Lauren and futurised it a bit. My end result was Larenza and seems to be cliche for star wars names to have a suffix of A

Managed to name my smuggler "Jet'Nebula" yesterday=)

Well I am not in the game yet, but I will tell you my name when I get in the game. Just so that people wont steal it.

Rules on smugglers names:

Easiest class to name,so many thief/rogue type,underworld characters in sf or fantasy to choose from that you can alter,mix and match.I wouldn't go for a real sounding name,its a bit of a cop out.

I try and keep the names true to the nature of the game.

Seeing silly names is funny, but detracts from the escapisim for me

I always look poorly on people with dumb names while a truly epic name is something to be admired. Now some people make their own names and they sound pretty dumb, like a 13yo who spends too much time in the bathroom but is trying to change his ways but isn't quite there yet.

 

However, if you can muster a truly epic name AND pwn in PvP, thats pretty cool I think.

I prefer real names that are borrowed from my favorite movies. I went with Burke (Carter J. Burke). I figure he's one of the most despicable smugglers out there. Edited December 15, 2011 by t_rall

I like my names like I like my men, real and hard to pronounce, wait, um, that didn't come out right...

My Smuggler in SWG had my real life first name and a last name that was a native american name translated into English that the Cherokee gave my grandfather. The way it turned out was a similar pattern to "Luke Skywalker" but obviously with all 3 parts (Luke, Sky, Walker) being different words.

 

But I wasn't able to get my first name on the Canderous Ordo server, so I chose the name Rallick. It's an assassin character in a fantasy series I'm reading, so it doesn't quite fit but sort of does at the same time. I don't think it's too jarring in the Star Wars Universe.

Hand-solo is silly. Get creative.

Through all my MMOs, I tend to pick a character from a book I'm currently reading or have read in the past. If it's available, I'm going with Roland. Bonus points to those of you who know what that's from. Edited December 15, 2011 by JavaJoe
