Commandos with Blaster Rifles

Hear me out. I'm not talking about bads who don't understand that assault cannons are better, or using one while you are leveling because it has better stats.

I'm talking last night I saw someone in PVP with one and it really threw me off. I was playing my tank and I'm looking for someone to guard and I notice this Trooper with a blaster rifle healing people. And it made me think...

Genius... I have a Healing Sorcerer, and I bought him some sith Cartel Coin armor cause I don't like him wearing dresses and I noticed I can be overlooked for a Juggernaut. A lot of people who see a dress wearing, assault cannon weilding, dual blaster bounty hunter and instantly mark them and kill 'em.

So my question is... does anybody else hide their combat roll by switching how they look?

Body Type 3 Sorcerer in Juggernaut armor trying not to look like a healer.

Body type 1 female Vanguard: Shield Specialist in lightweight looking armor trying to not look like a tank.

Blaster Rifle weidling Commando trying to not look like a healer.

I've been trying this whole 'Hide in Plain Sight' thing with my Sorcerer who looks like a Jugg. I try and heal in melee instead of 30ft. away (sometimes throw in some 'Double Strike' for flair) just too see how some people aren't paying attention. Depends on how observant they are. Those green channeling icons give me away.

Sort of, with a few in sub-50 I've equipped stuff like red crystals for pub, green for imp, generic or opp. faction looking gear. Haven't tried another AC's MH.

Only toon it's worked often with is my Sin if there was a messy zergfest and nameplates didn't stand out. Usually could spread a lot of damage and get a few executes out of it.

This might work for regular warzones since they are cluster F's anyways, so most players don't use much strategy. For me I look more at what they are doing then what they are wearing. So if I notice that someone I am burning down is all of a sudden back up to 50% or 100% health, I always stop attacking and start switching targets to find the person casting heals. I will say I have been confused a few times because of the armor they are wearing, but again I focus on what abilities they are casting more.

If a cannon and a rifle have the same mods, the only difference will be in the base damage. Healers don't rely on base damage so much (more on bonus healing and tech power) so it's not AS important as for a DPS commando. That said, you can't use Charged Bolts or Hail of Bolts with a rifle, and you will spend SOME TIME (especially in PvP) attacking instead of healing, so a cannon is always better.

Trying to disguise a Sage/Sorcerer as a Guardian/Juggernaut is feasible, but healmandos spend a lot of time using Hammer Shots to heal, and that green beam is a dead giveaway.

You people do realise there are icons above people's head that tells you what class you are. I did have a serious chuckle at trying to hide your sorc in juggernaut styled armour, don't care what your sorc looks likes, if you have the sorc icon, your a sorc and that's all I look for.

Same goes for the commando's doing the rifle trick.

A commando healer with a blaster rifle is like a Real life sniper hiding with a ligh orange helmet. They have to use a cyllinder to be good at healing. If you are lured by the look of a character, you are A) not paying attention at all B) Stupid or C) new to the game and dont know a lot about the game.

edit: if a jugg never leap or often have a bubble on him, It might be because its not a jugg. And when I target a jugg and above his name (in the UI where I see the picture of my target) its written Sorcerer, its because its not a jugg. ;)

For the commando using a rifle thing, thats something that I always do as a gunnery commando in lvl 50 pug pvp. That said, its mostly because I hate the look and feel of cannons and most of Gunneries damage is tech (unrelated to weapon damage). Being fully geared I can afford to lose about 100-300 damage on my FA crits. I've also noticed that I get targeted a lot less while using a rifle. As mentioned above, its usually just FOTM smashers and new players that don't catch on to my class, but that's one less person trying to kill me and that alone is beneficial.

I have those on, but personally I don't have them memorized or pay much attention to them. It's really easy to tell what your dealing with even in your periferals (which is what I mostly do) based on weapons.

Single saber 2 hands = Guardian

Dual Lightsabers = Sentinel

Single saber 1 hand = Sage

Double Bladed saber = Shadow

So, while memorizing the AC symbols is best, not many do it. You're definetely not gonna fool anyone for anyone for very long, because as soon as I see than single saber Jugg shoot out lightning, I know it's not a warrior.

It's just that (as someone also said) after so many PVP matches i'm so used to just glancing at enemies and making descisions. No one will be fooled for the whole match, but it's just that tiny bit of added edge that some people might want.

Another trick I've seen in many games... I've seen this done in MMOs, in racing games and many others. But people dress their character (or car) to look like a lowbie. Meaning like for example, modding that white level 10 lowbie trooper armor with EWH mods. Same thing in racing games, you use the 'stock' car but fit it with the best engine and parts.

Makes people think you're a scrub but you're really not. Might not work on everyone, but it's just a little edge.
