Automotive Issue

The pipe leading to the exhaust broke today, almost dead center of the vehicle. What is the simplest way to rig this up so I don't have to replace the entire exhaust system? I've read some interesting ideas using layered beer cans and hose clamps, which is a sound enough idea.

Go to a auto parts store and get some exhaust tape and a wide band clamp.

The band clamp is a wide clamp that covers a good area of the pipe for holding

pieces of pipe together. Use the tape to hold the two pieces together and put

the clamp over the top of that. When the tape gets hot, it will weld the pieces

together better and will seal the hole while the clamp will hold it together.

A band clamp will indeed repair the pipe but use a coupler instead of that tape under it. You'll need to measure the outside diameter of your exhaust pipe and buy a coupler that has an inside diameter that matches it. This will end up being a stronger repair than using the band clamp alone. Expect to pay under $5.00 for the coupler and $10-15.00 for the band clamp.
