ofLegends
Just thought I'd ask. I watched all of SwtorCentral's class comparison videos before I settled on Powertech, as it looked the most like my GW2 main, Engineer. It seems to be similar enough, but it's missing some of the heal/stealth utility I'd have liked to have. Other classes I saw in videos don't have quite enough fire and burst DPS to come close, at least from what I've seen. I was thinking maybe Scoundrel might be a good fit? Operative doesn't have quite enough fire.
NogueiraA
When you say Engi you mean core engi or any of the specs like Holosmith/Scrapper? There's no class on swtor that even gets close to Engi in this case. I think Scoundrel Scrapper would be your bet, the fun part is the name "scrapper" as one of the engineer's advanced spec. But have in mind that no class on swtor would be even "similar" to gw2's engi.
Equeliber
Scrapper has the stealth field and overall has lots of different tricks. You won't find anything quite like GW2's Engi but scrapper is probably the closest. It is a pure stealth class though.
Mubrak
Wouldn't Ruffian Scoundrel be a better fit? A 10m range skirmisher just like the PT, that uses stealth as a tool rather than a lifestyle, instead of silly fisticuffs actually uses that pistol, has an additional grenade attack, stacks dots and debuffs to empower their main attack, and has better off-heals at the cost of PVP trolling ability. Ruffian doesn't have the front-loaded burst of scrapper, but quickly catches up on any target that can survive a full rotation, and ranks among the highest parsing single-target dps in the game. I've been thinking about the OP's question all day, and I think that sword/pistol holosmith could come similar to guardian/juggernaut, especially if you use the Holosmith's Sword in GW2, and a lightsabre with a white crystal in SWTOR. (But obviously that ignores all the kits and non-Forge mechanics of engi/holosmith.)
ofLegends
Sorry about the late reply, I forgot to check this (also having to log in again -- was lazy). Yes, I was asking about the core engi on GW2. I haven't played the most recent expansion, but I was always a huge fan of power grenadier (bombs) and the flamethrower. I was basically looking for a lot of fire/explosions, some situational heals, and cool/niche utility abilities like a medicore stealth, oil slick, etc. I see you guys have mentioned Scoundrel, which is great because I already had plans to make one of those at a later date (still leveling this Powertech atm). I'm looking forward to it already.

Alright, thanks. Since I'm already doing Powertech and I don't want the mirror of it on Republic side, I had planned on doing Commando as well. I'm definitely already getting excited for my next character. I'd planned on doing Sage (heals), but I might reconsider now, tbh.
