Vrajl
I have read the forum post on PVE only autocrit to maul and was wondering about a change to low slash. If we both lower the cost and set it so that it procs induction, it would fit in a pve rotation. Set its priority above VS, kind of like assassinate in the execution phase. And in the execution phase, above VS and below assassinate. Maybe set it to proc that 6 percent damage increase talent in the second tier from the top of the deception tree. Thoughts? Aelanis
You'd have to have it refund force when it fails to stun the opponent, or else it would make it even stronger in PvP. I also, if I remember correctly, calculated that it didn't add enough damage to really be so much better than using more Voltaic Slash and possibly reducing time between Discharges (more hits = more chances to trigger Surging Charge). I'd have to go back and look again, but I don't think it's the way we really want to go, when there are simpler options.
Vrajl
I see your point on the surging charge procs and the pvp. I don't entirely agree with the pvp implications because of the icd, but I see your point. If the auto crit goes through though, wouldn't that change the equation a bit? With maul hitting harder, it might be worth it to delay a VS for the maul crits. I think surging charge needs a rework anyway, and I like the concept of that damage increase talent for raid utility. (TBH, I just want to maul more, lol)
Aelanis
If Maul was an auto-crit on NPCs, then yes, it would be worth weaving in. However, if we also saw a reduction in cost on Low Slash, you'd see a lot more Mauls, and it might push the damage capabilities higher than they should really go (breaking 4k dps on a dummy fight is a pretty safe upper cieling for the spec). The devs have made it clear that burst specs should not out-parse sustained specs, and Deception is nothing if not a burst spec. If anything, if they make Maul auto-crit NPCs, they should raise the force cost of Low Slash against NPCs as well. The proposed changes that included auto-crit Maul didn't account for nearly doubled Maul usage, and put Deception in the 3.8k range in Dread Forged gear, which could hit as high as 4k on average[/i ]in Dread Master gear, which ties many other sustained specs. Granted, it's significantly behind Madness, but that would probably be about as strong as it should get.
Vrajl
Hmm......too OP for us, huh. Ah well. Still excited for that NPC auto crit though
Aelanis
Let's just hope it happens at all. The developers said they had carefully watched one of the better threads discussing Deception changes, and wanted to use it as a launching point, but I don't see it happening in 2.9. Maybe 3.0, but we can still be hopeful for 2.9.
