I wonder if anything from this massive thread made it into Galactic Starfighter?

I know these items from my long-ago wishlist made it in:

-Multiplayer (although only PvP here)

-PvP

-Off the rails

Of course I never expected all or most of the list to happen; could have been happy with a dozen, or 10, or maybe 6. Could even have been happy all along with KOTOR's turret shooting, if with a multiplayer option.

Too tired to dig through my saved posts from years back for the whole list. PvP ain't my thing, though. Rather work with people than against them.

I hate to make the comparison, but I was playing EVE the other day, and thinking how awesome it would be if we had some of that kind of game in this one. Free to fly where you want, when you want. Mining, smuggling, transporting... DEPTH. Now, you take EVE, replace their combat with stick controlled flight like X-Wing and put in TOR's ground system, and you've got the beginning of something awesome. Then you add downtime activities like Pazzak, make the casinos on Nar Shadda and elsewhere actually functional, and you're getting even better.

The game has enormous potential, but it needs to make EVERYTHING deeper. A solid, full space game is only one step in that direction, but it's possibly the most important one.

Man ... I don't think the HAL9000s needed to make that work will exist for a while. While I doubt any one game will ever have the best of everything, it would definitely be awesome.

Something like EvE would work, even without NPC AI

mining.. doesn't need AI

space station trading.. doesn't need AI

hundreds of star systems.. doesn't need AI

multiple ship types from small fighter to capital ships.. doesn't need AI

atmospheric flight.. doesn't need AI

...

Eve is a dedicated space game, it only does space.

Mining, why, it's boring unless your just blasting asteroids and scooping the contents, and even that gets boring after a while.

Space Station Trading, not needed, we have venders and GTN.

Hundreds of Star Systems, requires vasts amounts of memory and processing, this requires a complete change of the engine and would make it EVE with planetary combat, not going to happen.

Multiple Ship Types, does need memory and processing, the game needs them in it's database, and needs to remember what your using, actually I want this one but it's still problematic.

Atmospheric Flight, requires atmospheric modelling and other physics to be introduced, bugs would unsue.

Plus as soon as you get these things, you will want AI and combat for them, This game can't be EVE.

This game will never be a space simulator. Never. Ever. That isn't the core concentration nor is this game trying to grab customers of space sims.

If you want to play that kind of game get ready for Star citizen or go play eve.

Considering how big this game universe can get, space is the least of things I would want them to focus on. A simulator is no good for an MMORPG as it doesn't suit your target audience.

I am pretty happy they were able to improve this game with a great new mechanic and hope they can get everything else in working order. Really want the WAR in Star wars, with walkers and turrets.

YOU say mining is boring. There are many of us who think otherwise.

I don't think anyone is suggesting the game become exactly like EVE. I said in my post that they could incorporate SOME of the aspects of EVE into this game. I really don't expect it, it would be a titanic project, and they are too focused on putting things on the microtransaction store (as most companies using them are). Still, we can put the idea out there for them to consider and reconsider. You never know, they may actually try it.

I disagree with your definition of an MMORPG. The point of an MMO is to build a "massive" setting. Adventure games have quests in little bits of a world (such as Vampire Bloodlines, which took place in little bits of LA, or KOTOR, or SWTOR). MMOs go a step beyond that and make WORLD in which not only scripted adventures happen, but in which players can create their own "adventure," building an online life for their character. Put another way, an MMO is defined by its "sandbox" elements. I call it DEPTH.

I've posted about this sort of thing many times before. The world of TOR is just too empty, too static, too unrealistic. Nar Shaddaa is the poster child for this. Here we have a planet that caters to every conceivable vice, and we can't partake of ANY of them. I can't go play Sabaac or Pazzak, I can't go watch a cabaret at the theater. I can't rent a hotel room and just sightsee. There are so many possibilities that are being missed.

That all said, I'm glad to be able to fly starfighters, but I have a sneaking suspicion it's not going to be quite what we expect (or want). For my part, I'd love to be able to just get in my ship and fly around, explore, mine some asteroids, maybe fight off some pirates, that sort of thing. But then, we've been saying this for YEARS now, since the original beta testing, and we were ignored.

We tried to tell them, but they assumed they knew better than we did, what we would enjoy. Hopefully, they're turning that attitude around.

Both extremely valid in this case tho.

You would get the same reply if you were asking for a first person shooter version of the regular warzones in the style of battlefront.

The answer would be "This game will never be the next battlegrounds" and "Go play battlegrounds when DICE releases it instead".

You cannot dismiss arguments the way you do when they are valid.

everyone has his feature requests, if someone asks for Chat bubbles would you also say "go play Secret World" or if someone likes a day/night cycle on planets "go play WoW"?

So I want some features from SWG but I can´t even go play SWG because you know, shut down to make way for SWTOR.

I still think a decent space sim would fit into this game, more than just a space warzone PvP arena, although it´s fun it is a very limited concept.

So what are YOUR feature requests? I´ll tell you what to "go play"
