Honestly, I can understand an argument for many classes as to why they might be overpowered, but not vanguards/powertechs. Their defensive cooldowns are pretty bad, they have no escape mechanic, can't heal, and in general do not have many tricks to turn the tide of a 1 on 1. If you seriously have problems with them, either roll an assassin or sniper, or their republic counterparts, or stick close to people who play these classes. They have most of the best tricks for stopping vanguards/powertechs.

And yet all I see in lowbie warzones is operatives.

But really PT/Van do lots of damage, that's about it. They lack the utility of the other classes. They are good in pugs because everyone in pugs is pretty much brain dead. Thus any damage first spamming class looks good at the end. What do you want them to be useless???

That being said on my Vanguard I am constantly fighting 2v1 3v1 because most of the imps know who I am and how fast I can kill them if they leave me. Needless to say, if someone doesnt have my back I am dead instantly. We are VERY easy to kill. In fact if focused I would say they are the easiest class to kill.

Now that I have given up their epic weakness, please go back to complaining about the real problem: time to bring cc back to normal BW thank you very much.

TBH out of all of the threads about overpowered classes, the complaining about Powertech/Vanguard is the only one which I've never really been able to see in game in my own experience. Personally I've never had particularly big trouble with that class overall, only against a few specific players who have played that class very well. Not after the 1.4 nerf, and not before either.

At least from my own experience, there has always been other classes who have been FOTM, never PT/VG, both in the sense of a FOTM class being really powerful, and in the sense of a FOTM class being really popular.

Rolled my first Imperial character, chose Bounty Hunter then specialised into Powertech. Not hit level 20 yet but thus far warzones seem fantastic, even the players who are lvl 30-49 don't stand a chance.

Having only played a Smuggler since January and leanred to master PvP with that class I've got to admit it was a breath of fresh air to play a Bounty Hunter and find myself one of the top objective scorers (and with decent kill counts) in every match played so far.

Limited experience for sure, but so far my experience makes me inclined to agree with the original poster.

Doesnt strike me as a big issue anymore. It seems like all the fotmers got the idea that mara is better and moved on to that instead. This is a good thing because mara, regardless of how easy "that spec" is said to be, is still far more complex than PT so a good deal of the fotmers havent figured it out yet.

I think the main concerns with powertechs is that they're really easy to do well with. Their lack of surviability counters them quite well in a group setting, but I think making the class a bit more difficult to play would benefit everyone, both the top guys who find them boring to play and the lesser players who think they're good. Never had an issue killing either on my Sniper/Sin. Legshot+Explosive Probe+Ambush=a Vanguards health down by a hell-of-alot. Easy pickings from there on out.

And I used legshot first so they don't run behind an obstacle to interrupt my Ambush.

I used to be an advocate of bashing PT's/VG's with there high bust dps, however i was always told to walk a mile in another persons shoes before you complain about them.

It is true there burst is high but it has to be, they have very few defensive capabilities and do die very easlily. if they do not have a pocket healer they are very easy to burn down lest they are a tank speck then they have low dps but high survivability.

despite there high dps they are a support role in pvp only, the best use for them is in HB for grappling a ball carrier to a trap or away from the goal. other than that if they are alone and are equally geared then they will fall fast, you just have to get past their burst rotation.

In my opinion the mara / sent classes are the ones in desperate need of a look over, they have the best of both worlds.

You know, there's quite a few threads complaining about every class (except mercs/commandos) being OP. Could it be that this game might actually be fairly balanced?

The real problem is cc.

Hi

I'm a concealment... please don't laugh at me to hard.

I just wanted to put my 2 cents in because I've done it on 20-30 threads so far.

And I won't even mention the fact we got nerf'd 6 *********** times in a row.

I won't even mention what Georgie puddin pie said in my signature about our class... NOT any other class.

Riiiight a heavy armor, ridiculous DPS class needs cooldowns and "escape mechanics" ok buddy.

Heavy armor doesn't do squat in pvp... Look at commandos/mercs and the other two trees of the vanguard.... One AC has good burst and damage.... Though it requires 10 m range to be effective.... And none of their burst is aoe. Shoot I wanna roll on that server since typically it's a smash spec tgat tops dps charts on my server.... And with far fewer deaths.

What happens is you see a pt/vguard with a guard and a healer and he just destroys your pug over and over. However you take a really geared sniper/war/sin and do that they will as well. In an even match most vguards are not the major threats.

And in every match noone really cares about concealments as a threat because the concensus is they are non factors to worry about compared to all the other overpowered classes in the game.

You got it exactly right Raika.

Lol I agree! You can put any dps class... Any dps class.... Put a guard on them and give them a dedicated healer, and they will seem OP.

it's probably the highest burst, hardest to kite dps. I guess there are higher burst dpsers, but in general, it's easy to do very high burst on a PT/VG without any setup.

i've been running assault VG a lot the past couple weeks, and I can 1v1 most ppl, but I definitely have my kryptonite.

opening:

  1. taunt* + sticky
  2. hammershot (2x usually applies dot)
  3. hib (if dot) | ion pulse (if no dot) followed by hib
  4. ip/ss
  5. hib

*in the "real world," I don't run in on someone who's looking right at me. so he's prolly engaged with someone else. hence the taunt. the only exceptions are prolly a lone guard in NC/CW.

if I really want the burst, I'll drop incendiary + assault plastique immediately after my first hib proc (5). otherwise, it's just ip/ss. stun/int as needed. dcds as needed. taunt w/e you can.

pluses:

  • I cannot be kited. everything I do is an instant, and I apply my cell 100% of the time inside of 10m and on average, every 2 hammer shots (30m) will do it. if I get you inside of 10m w/o using grapple, you aren't getting away w/o stealth.
  • I enjoy killing sage/commando healers that are guarded by pure tanks. the tanks can't hurt me, and they're half dead by the time I've killed their healer.
  • great burst. able to keep distance from warriors/knights in open space environs.
  • no problem with snipers/gs as long as I'm not stupid about the environ in which I pick a fight (where I can get knocked back)

negatives:

  • shadows/assassins absolutely destroy me. the dpses and hybrids in particular. I can't burst them down. I can't stun through resil the way I can with maras. for same reason, can't kite during shroud. the dpsers do way to much burst to a fairly fragile dps (me) for me to just take it while their immunity ticks away.
  • operatives. they don't scare me, but their lockdown abils make me an easy kill for anyone else. i mean...ops do enough dmg alone; if one locks me up while I"m in a fight, I'm done.
  • lolsmashers. i'm midrange, but let's face it: I"m essentially melee. I can solo just about any lolsmasher from full hp and whatnot, but that's not what kills me. it's the other lolsmasher. they can cover an awful lot of ground. it's very difficult to be melee and avoid them. unlike my sin, the vg has no natural defense against the smasher. and I can't heal myself. ironically, I have an easier time killing smashers on the medic.

if you want to look at numbers, lolsmashers of equal gear will almost double my dps in a wz. same for gs. I will destroy undergeared anybodies all day, but a properly geared and talented anybody will either kill me or bring me so low that I can get 2 shot by an auto attack. so no. I don't feel the least be op. then again, I'm not the greatest vg.

Lol heavy armour does nothing for a class cannon spec you as clueless as the OP.

Well to be fair, the person said a "heavy armor, ridiculous DPS class". But no, I totally agree. This is why the derpsmashers pretty much totally ignore my Sage, and always go after the Vanguards. It's like I'm waving my hands "Hey! I'm over here! Somebody please come smash me!" But nothing... Poor Vanguards. :)

Why even play other classes? Check the leaderboards in almost every warzone if you want to laugh at imbalance. Imps know. They have at least 3-5 in every warzone. lol It's stupid.

Ya, and the only people I see getting record breaking numbers are Warriors, not PTs. How often does a PT break 1 mil vs a Warrior rage spec? Not even close. The only thing we PTs have for defensive cooldowns is a herp derp 25% dmg reduction shield that we can use like every 2 mins. We can spec into having it reduced if we want, but not not vy very much.

Either roll a ranged class and keep your distance from them, or roll a Jugg / Murader. I honestly feel since the last nerf, it's a lot easier to kll the PTs.
