Pourekos
Hello, I am new to this game and my first character is a trooper (lvl 7 at the moment). My intention is to chose commando as AC and I was thinking to roll Assault Specialist simply because from what I read it is a more mobile dps spec than Gunnery (I like my pvp). I understand that part of the mobility is because of using more instant-casts, however it is claimed that it has superior kiting ability as well. My question is where is the kiting/snaring coming from? Is it from the talent Sweltering Heat? Additionally, if that is the case then how reliable is it when the Plasma Cells seems to have 16% chance (with talents) to apply it's effect? Finally, how does that come into play if I go Vanguard DPS? If anyone can provide an answer simply for the kiting/snaring ability of AS and ignore the rest I would be very grateful (of course I will be even more if someone can answer any of the rest as well :-). All the best
Afflicted_Fury
Yep it comes from Sweltering Heat, and its really good I use it on my Vanguard. Do not understimate a 2 sec snare on the Basic " Free" attack it will proc ALOT.

All the best We Assault Vanguards actually can pull it off a little easier. We get a first-tier ability that gives Ion Pulse the ability to trigger Plasma Cell as well- so you can always proc it 100% with a Pulse even if Hammer Shot misses out, long as you're within 10m of target. Not that you can't pull it off with a Commando, but you'll be spamming Hammer Shot a lot more in the process. Alternatively, Shield types get the same sort of trick up close and personal with talents using Ion Cell, but that's more making sure they don't get away than kiting them. Pourekos
Thanks a lot for the responses people! I appreciate that Vanguards have it easier with procing the snare, however I want the commando AC simply for the canons plus the range playstyle. Being a long time Boomkin in that other mmo, commando AS seems in many ways what I have been dreaming for my feathered practise-target :-). Again, many thanks. Well, Commando has the same talent in the assault tree, plus you can pulse people away - more kiting fun. Assault - Commando gets the giggles at Lev 20, and is quite mobile, screw grav-round. I LOVE my Vanguard - Harpoon though.
Pourekos
I am actually going for a gunnery/AS hybrid. Puting points in gunnery till lvl 19, then respec at 20 to AS in order to get the Incendiary Round, then going back to Gunnery until I get 2/2 Concussive force (no Grav Round) and the rest back to AS. Yes, I understand that my dps won't be optimal, however I am aiming for a mobile, utility spec with reasonable pressure and good cc (how much that changes at 50 with the pvp gear I will have to find out 1st hand I guess). Thanks again for the responses
